I got the engine opened up. Luckily I didn't notice any major damage. The seals that go around the outside of the rear housing were all over the place, I don't know how they usually look...and the needle bearings in the end of the e-shaft were busted up. Not too bad.

The rings outside have grooves, which the seals are supposed to sit in (one outside ring, one inside ring). They should not be all over, they should be within the grooves around the irons. However, when you remove the housings the gaskets may come out. You might have blew a coolant seal. Check around the irons to make sure nothing is cracked too.

You know, that color scheme sounds pretty good, but I was thinking maybe neon green housings with mexi chrome tiger stripes and brown irons with pink polka dots. ..I should start a poll lol

here's an update...new rx7 parts hauler
craigslist special...lots of work to do
As far as the rx7, I know I said earlier that I would be sticking with the twins but I had a change of heart and will be going single turbo.
I figured I will probably never sell this car so I might as well do what Ive been dreaming about since I was a little kid. At least I can say I have experienced a well sorted twin turbo stock 7. I have conquered the rats nest and it's time to move on.
All I know for sure so far is Im having Howard Coleman rebuild and port the engine. If I am feeling rich I will get a turblown efr8374 kit, if I'm poor I will settle for a BW s362. As far as everything else, I will have to see what the classified section has for me. Keeping an eye out for: water injection, adaptronic ecu, marine coils + relocation, fuel set up, vmic, etc...

That's what this car stuff is all about in my opinion. I'm definitely going to keep with the classified **** theme. There's just too many good, useable parts out there that need a good home.

Not anything too exciting. I was trying to wait until I could do an update with some pics.
I decided to just buy a rebuilt shortblock from The Goat on the forum here. The price is the same as if I sent my engine out to be rebuilt, except now I don't have to worry about shipping it out, PLUS this way I now have a complete spare engine. Win win.
I also picked up a vmount from Neutron. A banzai oil pan brace, stainless omp lines, and fuel lab mini fpr from Broke_A_Baller.
Hopefully it is warmer the next time I come home so I can get started on taking apart the engine bay and painting all the little brackets. I also got a new hvlp gun to hopefully lay down some fresh VR in the bay so the new engine will have a nice shiny home. Like you, I've been battling the cold in the garage. It's hard to get motivated to do anything when you have to worry about filling propane tanks every day and shitty lighting. I'll have to take a page or of your book and start doing some garage mods!

Hey it'll be 30+ this weekend from what I see!!!
Get to it!!! Lol
I need to stop being lazy and fill up on propane. Hopefully the last time before installing my hanging heater lol.
The good thing is that this lovely weather should only last a couple more months...hopefully.

Yeah being 30 this weekend is great and all, but unfortunately I'm stuck out in North Dakota for another week or two. It will prob be -20 again when I come home.

I got a teaser pic from The Goat at APU today.
Here's my housings.
Im going gloss black housings with flat black irons. Various other pieces in the engine bay will alternate between gloss and flat black, with a few select polished pieces. I think the visual effect will be pretty high class, like a tuxedo.
I have all the needed supplies to paint the engine bay too, Im just waiting for a few days off to disassemble the last few things in the bay and start prepping.
I've also become interested in the heat dissipating coating at www.swaintech.com....stuff looks pretty bad ***. I'm thinking about sending out my vmount intercooler to get coated. It will supposedly help the intercooler shed heat, plus it will be a nice black instead of polished. I'd like to get the oil coolers, radiator, and calipers coated too, but I'll have to see if the stuff is worth the money first before I go too deep.
