^Sure thing, though it'll be a couple months until I get the chance.

Copeland 02-10-14 10:06 AM

Everything looks great, any further progress?

Rxmfn7 02-10-14 09:03 PM

Nothing picture-wise to show for right now. Drivetrain has been installed for the final time (hopefully..). Intake fab is getting finished up. Ill hit up Logan see if I can get some pictures of the progress. Hopefully still on track for early spring completion of the drivetrain.

Some photo updates. Received pictures of the engine mounting setup. Also mounting of the coils. So engine is in and accessories are starting to get place. Hopefully not too much longer until brap brap time :D

Looking good Lenny. You are a man of patience my friend but the results will be really nice.

Rxmfn7 02-16-14 02:39 PM

Thanks David, and yea its been a patience-testing road for sure. But nothing worth having comes easy, so they say. Or at least I keep telling myself. Perhaps Ill see you this year at DGRR.

kylemo 02-16-14 02:57 PM

Just read through the entire build. Amazing. It's coming along nicely, will be more than an impressive car when it completed. Love to see N/A engine, always see big boost with numbers but there's something to be said for that amazing sound and high rpm making same power as turbo'd cars. Can't wait to see the finish!!!

papsmagu 02-17-14 06:58 AM

nice....what coils are those, AEM? Also, sorry if i missed it but what EMS are you running

Rxmfn7 02-17-14 08:25 AM

^Thanks! ECU is an electromotive Tec3r, and coils are electromotive inductive coils.

Currently waiting on some updates and pictures from Logan. Hopefully by the end of the weekend Ill have some nice pictures to share :) In the meantime thought Id at least show some of the exterior pieces I have waiting to go on. I never wanted to stray too far from a stock body FD as I truly believe its about perfection.. but I have always liked some of the more subtle pieces that add some aggressiveness to the car. So I have a set of OEM urethane 99 sideskirts, a FEED hood as well as a FEED spoiler. Not sure if all of these things will happen this summer or not, depends if I have the funds to have the whole car done at the same time, as well as what the timeframe is the body shop can have it done. I actually want to enjoy the car when I get it back from Defined and not just transport it to another shop for months on end.

Logan was kind enough to take a few pics of the progress and intake manifold is just about complete. I must say I think it looks killer :D

David Hayes 03-24-14 11:20 PM

Pretty damn nice. Excellent work.

t-von 03-25-14 06:58 AM

Yes it is. I'll tell ya, each of Logan's NA projects always has some unique looking eye candy. I love seeing all these different intake designs. You have a time frame when Logan may be firing it up?

Rxmfn7 03-25-14 08:30 AM

Thanks David! And t-von it should be pretty soon, I know he's working on it pretty aggressively now. There were some small hang ups in the intake fab. As you can see since the engine is tucked under the firewall slightly it had to snake a bit forward, and with the slide throttle he ran into clearance issues with the old waterpump. So he switched back to a Cosmo pump. There is still a good bit of odds and ends to button up, dry sump and oiling system needs plumbed , etc.. But I'd be looking for her to make some noise within a couple weeks :D

t-von 03-25-14 12:32 PM

^ Yea moving it back is a pain in the ass but it's 100% worth it when it's finished. :)

Narfle 03-25-14 01:32 PM

Super sick. I want first right of refusal.

Rxmfn7 03-26-14 12:25 AM

^ Not going to lie, had to Google what the hell you were talking about :p:

Fd3BOOST 03-26-14 08:05 AM

I've just read through the whole thread. This is really coming together well. You've got great taste. Where did you get the brake ducts? I assume made you made them? More pics!

RENESISFD 03-26-14 09:34 AM

You need another coupling to allow for flex on that upper radiator tube.

Rxmfn7 03-26-14 11:18 AM

Yep, you are correct. Another one is being added to the section heading straight into the pump.

Yeah Lenny forgot to mention a secondary coupler is being added. I don't have the coupler yet, so wanted to get it all routed to save time. Also make the air-separated tank etc.

Also the intake is not finished yet, some may notice the built up weld beads in some areas. That was to make the most perfect inside airflow transitions. It will be getting smoothed and look really nice when done. Downside to 1/16 thick tubing, can't make complex transitions easily.

Working on the dry sump mounting and alternator bracket now.

papsmagu 03-26-14 02:58 PM

looks great.....sweet set up.

what do you plan on using for the velocity stack filters/mesh screens? i have a similar build and need to find a mesh screen that will fit over the top of my velocity stack. your velocity stacks look to be the same size as mine?

Rxmfn7 03-26-14 04:21 PM

I'm not sure what, if anything Logan had planned. Me personally, I'm not a huge fan of the screen mesh. It doesn't provide proper filtration. I was planning on fabricating a filter box using a large filter surrounding all 3 venturis. Also kicking around using the "socks" over them , but word from a few friends who have itb setups (Hondas) say they are usually restrictive. But we'll see as I'll probably try a few different things. I'm sure Logan may chime in with his thoughts, and I know he had used those screen mesh filters in other projects so I'm sure he can lead you to where to source those.

I've been on Logan's and your car build threads and im glad that their are ppl out there who appreciate the N/A's and pushing the limits of them....pretty sweet!!!! Keep up the great work it's looking real good!

Fd3BOOST 03-26-14 10:32 PM

You never answered, whats up with the brake ducts. Where'd you scare them up from?

Rxmfn7 03-26-14 10:42 PM

Sorry, must've read over your post. The cf brake ducts were made by a forum member a couple years back. Unfortunately the fitment of them wasn't all that great and I have since sold them. I will be fabbing up a set out of aluminum once I get the car back.

So Custom one offs, Thanks.
Aluminum, you scared of pouring resins?? :D

Rxmfn7 03-27-14 05:40 PM

The ducts were a copy of ones made my ap racing back in the day. And as for my future material choice, I'm confident I can make a nice set from aluminum. I haven't done much fg or cf work beside some ghetto boat repair so I'll stick with what I'm comfortable with. I'm most likely going to make them just to be able to attach a hose leading to proper ducts from the front end.

I hear ya, I was just busting your chops. Aluminum might be more durable in the long run anyway.

thanks for the info, i ended up fabricating some mesh filters myself. good luck and keep us updated on your build

Rxmfn7 04-03-14 12:04 AM

^ Cool, and thanks. Do you have a build thread? I saw the pics you posted in the N/A section and it looks sick! :) Love me some ITBs 3 rotors.

^Nice, thanks David!

On my report, Logan says the drysump bracket and accessory setup is being worked on now. He says its been pretty hectic there lately, with some personal things that have happened recently and they are now in the process of moving the shop. But, progress is being made and he anticipates it running on its own power very soon. Cant wait!

I'm patiently waiting for updates myself. I'll report as soon as I hear anything.

I feel your pain as 20b withdraw is a MOFO. :(

David Hayes 05-17-14 12:58 PM

#3 on 20B withdrawals :( Maybe someday we can all meet up with cars intact and ready to go.

#4 on that lol

Mdessouki 05-17-14 11:57 PM

#5 (although not really withdrawal as none of my RX-7 have ever ran for any real duration)... I guess this thread is going to turn to a support group...

papsmagu 05-19-14 06:45 AM

no withdraw for me....got some nice FL weather and got some nice driving in the REPU.....i like the idea of getting the all the 20B's together...that would be cool.......
.
BTW: still waiting on pics of the drysump.

David Hayes 05-19-14 07:14 AM

^ Jerk! There is always that one guy that is actually driving his 20B :)

On a serious note, glad to see you are on the road Simon. Got everything sorted out?

A get together needs to be planned. I'm thinking in the fall so everyone has plenty of time to finish up and fine tune. A year ago we did the Virginia International Raceway meet and it was a blast so maybe we can plan something like that. I know the REPU is not a track car, but could be fun to take it out on a closed track so you can go whatever speed you want.

Another option is to do something here in the Asheville NC area. We do have the Tail of the Dragon which would be a ton of fun for everyone. Could set up a low key event in the fall for that.

What do you guys think? Any takers?

Rxmfn7 05-19-14 09:54 AM

Me too ;)

Made a trip out to Defined Autoworks today to chat with Logan about things and see how its progressing. They have been very busy with the shop relocation, so unfortunately not too much else to really share as of now. Did snap a few pictures. Drysump pump is mounted but not plumbed. Bracket has been machined for the alternator, and lower radiator line and clamps have been fabbed. Sorry for the low quality pics. Hopefully now that they are about back up and running there will be some good progress very shortly.
