1 Year Anniversary of FD ownership build...94 Motego.

Figured I'd start one of these sooner or later.. took me about a year to do it.. haha.

Anyways, bought my 1994 Montego Blue FD about one year ago. 106k Miles for $10,500 from a ex-rotary mechanic in Rosemead. His name was Norman and he worked of Sidepex Racing ? (little shop next to Raceline off of Lower Azusa/Encinitas)

He was selling it due to medical bills, from my understanding he came down with brain cancer and had to give up his passion of working on rotaries.

The car was pretty clean, interior in decent shape, being a 1994 model the interior wasn't all puked up with Tan and remained only on the seats, mats, and carpet. (horay!).

I'm not sure to what extent Norman rebuilt the motor, but he stressed when i purchased it from him that the motor only had 50 miles on it before he was diagnosed with brain cancer and stopped modifying/driving the car. His memory was very vague of what he did to the car and when i tried to get more details on the rebuild he said he did all new 'seals'. Upon looking under the hood it looked like he replaced all the vaccum lines with silicon ones and might have had the irons apart. I took it to Lucky7 after about a week of driving it and did a compression test, which came back with 110psi on both rotors.

In summary I got a 1994 Montego Blue FD with 106k Miles, 50 miles on a 'rebuilt' motor, bone stock /w stock shocks and Tein Lowering springs for $10,500.

Here's what it looked like when i test drove it and bought it.

I'll update the thread more when I get home, but it has come a long way since i first got it...

My first aspirations for the car were to simple modify it lightly and drive it as much as I could. As i drove it more, I simple fell in love with the car and love driving it. My goals have slightly changed now and I'm going to try and gear it up for a trackday once i get all my funds in order... haha.

*EDIT* type in the title.. Montego.. not Motego.. lmaoo...

Found somemore progression photos.

I remember driving the car around a lot and cruising the classifieds a lot on rx7club for used goodies. A couple of my first mods were a R1 Lip which i repainted and a Greddy Ti exhaust I got for super cheap locally. I also relocated the battery from the engine bay to the passenger bin after doing a lot of reading on the forums.

I don't exactly remember the order of these mods but, somewhere between the Greddy Ti and the R1 Lip I was getting out of the Honda Ruckus Game.

This is my ruckus before i traded it for 2 sets of rims, one set of 19" Volk GT-Fs and another set of 17x9 +20 17x10 +19 Regamasters which I had refinished in silver.

A friend of mine also introduced me to his friend that owned a paint and body shop down in El Monte, who also happened to be friends with Ken from shine auto.. which led to alot of money being spent on exterior goodies and painted by my friend... haha.

I ended up with Shine Feed Sideskirts, Shine Re-Amemiya rear diffuser, Shine Duckbill spoiler, and a cheapass VIS Feed style front bumper which I got for free from a friend... (it turned out to fit like **** and looked like **** so i sold it and bought the superior Shine Feed bumper eventually)

Looking at the images I almost forgot, When I got the wheels I ended up doing the suspension too. Went with Tein Flex's a front Racing Beat Sway bar and a Re-Amemiya Sway Bar Brace that i got from a friend.

I slowly began to order cooling stuff to keep the FD more reliable for day to day use and picked up a used Blitz FMIC and a brand new Koyo N-flow. Got some 99 spec turnsignal lamps and call it a day for awhile.... until i suckered into respraying the entire car.. haha.

- Blitz Turbo Timer

Still looking pretty clean, stock fenders, feed front end and accessories.

Then all hell broke loose.. and I decided to respray with Montego... and acquire some Recaro RZ's rewrap in Alcantra (sp?)... mwahah.

I'm not that **** about things, but one thing i wanted to drive home was the removal of all the window seals and windshield seals when painting... So i had them all removed, removed the rear glass and bought all new Mazda OEM seals... I couldn't stand seeing paint peel after 2-3 years right around the seals...

my friends glass guy didn't want to try to remove the front windshield due to the large amount of sealant they used on it, so he scraped out what sealant he could and custom cut this piece for the front windshield.

Even had him to the door jams again.... lollol

door had some body filler ghosting so back it went into the paintbooth...

new cover got chipped while trying to adjust the fender/hood/cover alignment.. back it went too...

almost back together... looking at the photos I forgot to mention somewhere between all this i acquired a scoot hood produced my seibon and FEED combo lights /w covers...

not the most current, but very current engine bay setup.. missing the AEM Meth kit I just installed this passed weekend.

Oh yea, installed a Greddy air pump eliminator kit and got rid of the power steering a long time ago... love the feeling without powersteering... left the a/c because that **** is necessary during the summer in Cali... lol. Picked up a BNIB Blitz FMIC that came with all the correct brackets this time opposed to my micky moused ones from the previous kit.

Also did a Parallel Rotorsports Dual oil cooler kit... bummer i didn't have before and after oil temps...biggest issue with the kit being the line routing.. which is under the oil coolers... not over...

Due to the lines being so low I bought a shine auto 99 spec 3 piece under tray and modified it to fit for my feed application just a little more protection...I'll probably be flipping the oil coolers during my next oil change for piece of mind.

And this is the last time I took photos of the car, rotarylove is a friends shop based out of Canada. Not sure if its up running yet but he just needed some photos for his website.

Ganadors added awhile back, loved the look when i saw them on a FD and felt they were worth replacements for 'shrek' ears the Fd originally had.'

Also picked up a Towhook incase i ever broke down.. someone on the forum made it, i forgot who.. love it !

Wait, I lied. I made a 800 Mile round trip up to Monterey during labor day weekend ! FD LOVED the coastal breeze the entire drive up !

took the miata out to Chuckwalla 2 weekends ago and saw a stockish looking CYM FD tearing it up on the track and spurred me to get mine into track shape...

so i installed/bought...

- Improved Racing STB brace with brake master cylinder brace
- PMU SCR-Pro front and rear rotors...
- AEM Meth kit
- Rotary Performance Toelinks and Trailing arms
- Replaced all rear pillowballs with Atomic Rex 'street' versions

Just-someone - Bought the Recaros from a member on the forums that was located in Okinawa. He parted his car out and I pmed him for them before he actually posted = )

wutangben - Thanks amigo ! wish i was gutsy enough to lower it another 2" too... my bumper already takes a beating as is... haha.

Turbo8 - Thanks ! Didn't really like the MB at first, but it slowly began to grow on me.

here's a rolling shot i took when i was on my way to drop the car off with a miata builder to fab a harness bar for me along with some ducting for my fmic and oil coolers.
