For anyone that may wish to join Kelli and I, we'll be leaving from middle TN Friday morning with plans to tour the Biltmore Estates later that day and then stay the night at the Rodeway Inn And Suites- Biltmore Square (9 Wedgefield Drive Asheville, NC 28806) so we're close to the Cracker Barrel.

Friday night we will be in Asheville and leave from Asheville on Saturday morning... it's about 1 1/2 drive from Cherokee without taking the parkway. If you are staying in Cherokee Friday night then you could head up the parkway and probably meet up with us as we come down. I know we will be dropping down 276 into Brevard for lunch and meeting up with the GA crowd. If I know you are coming up, then I'll stay up on the road way to meet up with you... I'll just have to let you know what car I'm in that day =]

thanks to those who braved the weather and attended Blue Ridge Rain Run this year... the morning started out rough but as we got out of Asheville and closer to Cherokee the rain let up a little and held to a tolerable sprinkle. Parkway was closed due to the past week of rain so we ended up cruising some of the other roads on the way to the camp site. Still had a fire to hang out by and a great time!
Next year I'll be able to plan the event earlier and hopefully the weather will play nice again...

Well, this year's B3R was more of a Blue Ridge Rain Rally than a rotary rally, but it was still great! Thanks to Zach and Daniel for at least some rotary representation! Due to the extreme weather forecast and because we live 8 hours away, we opted to take the trusty Subaru instead of one of our 7s. Unfortunately, the BRP was closed, but many thanks to Tray for leading us down several other alternative and equally fun windy roads. Even with the rain, the scenery was beautiful and the waterfalls were spectacular. The whipping wind and swirling mist up in the higher elevations was especially surreal. Given the heavy rain in Asheville Sat. morning, Richard and I agreed it would take a miracle for us to camp Sat. night. Well, miracle I guess we got because by the time we arrived at Smokemont, there were actually sections of dry pavement and the rain had all but stopped. It stopped long enough for us to put up our tents! Instead of cooking out for such a small group, we opted to have dinner in Cherokee. The rain even held off enough to spend several quality hours hanging out around the fire. It rained some throughout the night, but it was perfect sleeping weather with the creek roaring in the background and rain gently falling on the tent. No bugs, not to cold, no crowded roads, and we didn't have to worry about finding pull-off places large enough to accommodate a long string of cars. Yeah, we missed visiting with the regulars who didn't make it this time, and we missed meeting some new faces, and of course, the rotaries, but all-in-all, it was still worth the trip! We took a few photos, some better than others (will post later). We're already looking forward to the next one – snow rally anyone? Just kidding! Thanks for another fun B3R Tray!
If you could only hear the roar!
