Thumbs down Toyotarx7 (Shifted Perfomance) = crooks:

The following is a comprehensive review of a transaction made on January 3, 2011.

Tony Malke
1147 Deal Road
Ocean NJ 07712

Tony advertised engine wiring harness services, so I contacted him through RX7club.
The "company" states on their website:

The configuration of the harness required was a 2JZ-GE with a 7M-GTE ECU to RX7 chassis.

The forum discounted price: $350.00
I supplied Tony with all of my RX7 wiring harnesses, so that he can sort through them and use any connectors that would be useful. (Such as the alternator/battery harness with fuse box.) I was also offered a $165.00 "battery relocation kit" which I purchased.

When I received my invoice, I was informed that the RX7 harnesses I supplied were NOT USED. When asked if I wanted them back, I said YES.

February 6, 2011 I received my wiring harness, which appears to be wrapped tightly with electrical tape as well as my "battery relocation kit."

Upon unraveling the harness it's immediately apparent to be extremely long.
(9.50 feet in length to be accurate.)

The "battery relocation kit" was nothing more than knock-off Monster stereo amp cable ($1.25 per foot with cheap battery terminals found on Amazon for $17.)

The wiring harness was laid out in the engine bay the way it would be used, and it was discovered that the harness that seemed long could reach all the way to the rear storage bins in the car.

I sent an e-mail inquiring about the harnesses length and the "battery relocation kit." :

It was at this point that I realized not all of my supplied wiring harnesses came back with the shipment.

I inquired about my RX7 harnesses that were "NOT USED" and this was Tony's response:

Tony essentially stole my RX7 engine harness to use its materials so he wouldn't have to purchase addition wire. His excuse was that the wire insulation used on the wiring harnesses were more fire resistant than normal wire insulation and that the gauge matching was convenient.

At this point I made it very clear that I never gave him permission to consume the wiring harness from the RX7 to extend the harness.

After reading his response to my e-mails, it became very evident that he is quite confused about basic material sciences. The fire resistant tape is vinyl electrical tape, which is wrapped over cheap plastic wire loom, which is subject to fire, and damage as any other material would be.

Knowing this, I decided I better dissect this wiring harness to reveal what's going on here.
After removing the electrical tape and wire loom, it was discovered that no wires were soldered. Tony simply twisted the wires together and wrapped them with electrical tape.

Tony is also apparently confused with the concept of signal wire shielding. The shielding used to insulate ignition signal wires was floating in the loom, not grounded. Knock sensor shielding was also ignored.

Loose miscellaneous wires were found placed in the loom not attached to anything, while some wires on the harness had damaged insulation that would have shorted had I powered it up.

If this were my business and a product left my hands like that, I would be incredibly embarrassed.

To this day, I have not requested or demanded a refund... If I were "Shifted Performance" or any company trying to start up, I definitely wouldn't want something like this to ever happen.

So if Shifted Performance wants to issue me a refund on this, I will gladly post that they did so.

I should receive an apology for such behavior stealing my RX7 wiring harness and poor craftsmanship tearing up my 7M wiring harness.

Attached here are pictures of the wiring harness, as well as the dissection:

Other wires not soldered.

How every connection looked:

Random wires in the loom connected to nothing:

All the wires pulled out to be tapped were either black or red:
