Honestly, my housings look great and are exactly what I expected, but this is after having to send one back. I can't speak for Kevin, the OP, though.

Resurfacing is a little under $400 per housing for a FD. $300 for NA FC. If JHB fixes their glitches, then I think it's a good, less expensive alternative to new mazda housings.

I wanted to update the thread letting everyone know that I did finally receive my 2 final warranty housings from JHB. In addition I got 4 others in trade for some cores. All 6 look pretty good with only minor issues, though I have not yet checked closely for flatness etc...

If I had been getting housings that looked like this the whole time I would have been happier. No broken studs, no missing or hacked exhaust ports, no corroded or dented coolant seal mating surfaces.

Another problem with my housings....

I just put togther a beautiful engine, but when i went to put the exhaust studs in I ran into a problem. One of them has been drilled and tapped to M8 X 1.25. Not only that, but shittily done and AT AN ANGLE!

I was never told of the problem, nor was I given the custom stud required for this!!!

Now I have to make a drill guide, drill it out straight, and re-tap for M12 and make a custom stud that is stepped down to M10 X 1.5. I wish I had used Mazda housings... this put my build back a week!!!

Thank god my father is good with this **** and has the time to help... I guess that's why I've promised him a key to the FD

yea my warranty housings had the coolant sealing surfaces dented up, kevin landers told me a good trick, i told my engine builders, they went ahead and tried it. right now both the housings are in my FD (they sent me fd housings as warranties rather then the t2 ones that were lost) and it seems to be running strong, time will tell i guess.

^ At one point they tried to send me a TII housing, but I told them no way. I don't want to have to deal with the coolant passage leaking.

I'd just get new mazda housings or find some really nice used ones.

Real shame. I saw them at their booth at sevenstock X just this weekend and the product looked pretty good from a short glance over. I didn't give them a full inspection but obviously this was the demo housings to show to everyone.

Rob Golden was over their pushing their product.

Some of the housings that I got were ones that had Rob's name on them and I guess he'd sent them back for warranty and they wound up coming to me instead. I also heard there were some other big name rotary vendors with issues at the same time I had them.

I have since sold and/or used the housings that I got from them and thus far no issues to report in the short term, though not all of the engines have been built/ran with them to my knowledge.

I will still offer this as an option should any of my customers want them, but I will not put my own cores and money into it.

I am happy you put up this post and others I know have responded with their experiences *thus far with them*.

I dont know what to say and probably dont need to say anything.

Thanks again and I hope the issues get addressed to a level that is acceptable to all involved in using these things, I'll keep an eye out to see if things improve.

Yea I purchased the last set that kevin had and hopefully there won't be any problems with them but seeing as how he's going to build the engine and the fact that he's a straight up guy, I'm not worried about him selling me something that he wouldn't use himself. As of now my build is still a few months off because I'm collecting parts here and there but I'll be happy to post up results whenever they're available.

I hear ya Joe. The JHB scares the crap out of me. I'll never use them. They were running 15+psi on an rtek 1.7 with 550/720cc injectors. I can't beleive the engine came in running, and it had 2 broken apex seals on the front rotor and 1 on the back.
BTW, don't you resurface the irons anymore?

Somehow I think that may have something to do with it....

I would also like to know what seals they were using, It doesn't say in the thread. You've got to be doing something seriously wrong with that low mileage of an engine looking like that.

Here is a link to the NRS ceramics thread where they took pics of the JHB housings with 60k miles on them. https://www.rx7club.com/rotary-car-performance-77/nrs-rotorsports-ceramic-seal-test-results-182522/page10/

All I can Say Is WOW, Marc approached me at the end of Sevenstock X and offered to sponser my car (93 red Fd at my Komodo Goods Booth) and i was seriously thinking on taking him up on the offer.
Now after reading all the problems the Reputable guys on the forum have had I'm going to have to say no to him.
Are there other companies doing similar Cermet coatings for our housings?

I think "glassman" is working on a resurfacing/coating process as well, but the finished product may be months or more likely years away.

I built that engine in the pics above. We used OEM Mazda apex seals. Everything was within spec when it was put together. I only partially installed the engine and got it running for him, he wanted to break in the engine with the Rtek. Which should have been fine assuming he kept out of boost and kept the RPMs down. After the engine was broken in he was going to bring it back to get a Greddy FMIC installed as well as a E-manage (sp)....but he never did. The owner drove it for something like 2000kms had someone else install the FMIC but never bothered to put the standalone in it. Then sold it to a young kid who knew nothing about RX-7 and told him it was 400hp and was good to go.

Needless to say, give a 17 year old kid a Turbo RX-7 with an upgraded turbo on stock electronics and Im not surprised at all that it blew up on him.
