Bad Transaction With: HollywoodFD

I apologize ahead of time for the novella here, but I believe if you're going to list an issue that you want resolution to, all facts should be out.

I purchased a 93 RX-7 from HollywoodFD close to a month ago now. The original FS thread can be found: here.

At first he was very straight-up. I still think, for the most part, he is, but there are some very big gaps still.

I talked to him on the phone, via email, and PMs a few times. He stated that the wheels shown in the pictures had 2 bad tires from when they were on his G35 so he didn't feel comfortable with them being driven on a 10 hr trip through the mountains. Fair enough. I asked if they could be shipped and he agreed that he would do that and he put the stocks back on. I also sent two texts asking if he would consider putting new front tires on the wheels and I'd just pay him the extra. He never responded to those.

A few days prior to me heading out he noticed dampness on the bell housing and wanted to check it out first. Seems like a very straight-up move so I was fine with it. He said it was a very light seeping from the oil pan gasket. Common problem on the car so I'm ok with it and purchase my plane ticket to VA to pick up and drive the car back.

He drove the car to the airport and had someone pick him up. All things are good so far.

When I looked at the car, there were definitely a few paint issues that were not shown in the pictures (paint missing under clear coat... very odd). Once again, I wasn't too upset about it because he never claimed it was in perfect condition. It did also, however, have a very failed attempt at a fender pull on the driver's front. It's crumpled up and the paint is flaking off the inside.

I looked under the hood and noticed he had oil on the Y-Pipe. Looking a little further I noticed oil coming out of the secondary turbo recirc valve. It was minor, but setting there. At this point I probably should have cancelled the transaction and booked a return flight but instead we took a brief test drive. The car felt decent so I figured it was probably something minor.

I confirmed with him that we would get the wheels shipped out to me and we signed the paperwork and completed the transaction.

On my way home the car was shaking like crazy over 60 mph. I figured it was just a balance issue from the new tires... no big deal. Every time I stopped, however, smoke would come out of the engine bay. This turned out to be from oil on the engine itself being burnt off.... The A/C did also not blow "ice cold" like he said. It barely had any fan power and it was probably in the low 70s range temperature wise. I'm just VERY glad I drove over night...

Now I've had the car for nearly a month. I started digging in to replace vacuum hoses and do some preventative maintenance. Almost all the vac lines are split, 50% of the solenoids snapped (typical FD problems), and I'm finding all kinds of little things that were poorly done.

The down-pipe he put on apparently had an exhaust leak because there is a ton of some kind of sealant between the down-pipe and the stock mid-pipe. Because of this I am replacing the mid-pipe AND the down-pipe as I'm not sure it will even separate...

The car is not just lightly seeping oil.. the whole floor board is saturated! It's not a scenario where I have to carry oil with me at all times, but it's definitely worse than he lead on.

I have still not received my wheels. He stated at the time of purchase he would get them out that week. I have sent multiple emails to no avail. It took mentioning further action to receive my property for him to even reply! He then stated he was going to send them as a nice gesture, even though he didn't have to, because I traveled for the car which is completely wrong as I have emails from him saying it comes with the car. His FS ad even has them on the car as part of it.

I talked with him about 1.5 weeks ago and he said he would ship them if I found where to ship from and the cost. I did the research and he agreed to go to the place I found and ship them. I haven't heard from him since!

The car was definitely in worse condition than he lead on but that comes with buying used cars. Not receiving something that was included in the purchase, that I've done all the research on in which way to best get to me, and have offered to pay for, is not acceptable. Ignoring emails that are trying to get things resolved civilly is not acceptable... This is also why I asked him to put 1 or 2 in the car for the drive back so he then doesn't have the full set sitting in front of him....

Any suggestions on how to get the wheels to my door, or $1k for the cost of the wheels / tires I would appreciate..

Sorry for the book, but I want to make sure the information is out there. I was worried with the hurricane coming through due to his location, but I checked the news and that area only suffered some power outages based on the local NC news. Regardless, the wheels should have been here WEEKS ago.

court summons, unfortunately reversing the whole transaction would probably be more money out of your pocket i'd at least sue for the cost of the wheels to light a fire under his ***.

does look clean but it will probably need a rebuild in the near future so the price is perhaps above average considering the things you mentioned.

also, if you haven't transferred the title yet write down the registered address before you lose it. googlemaps may also verify that the pics in the ad are at the location of the address on the paperwork.

Yeah my neighbor is a lawyer so I will be discussing everything with her.

He registered it under a PO box in VA so he didn't have to pay NC taxes... I do have his address from other paperwork, however.

It really sucks that it has to come to this. I've already put another couple grand into the car just for maintenance aspects and to get better parts on there... I just need it to run for a while so I can build my 20b...

The car having other issues is part of buying a used car. It happens. The flat out lies and not sending the wheels is a big problem to me. I guess I'll have to pursue the legal route.

Thanks.

I sent him an email last weekend giving him two weeks to get them to me before I continue down the path of further action so I guess we will see. I gave him that time since he is in NE NC and the hurricane came through... I figured it's very likely he is without power and I'm not trying to be a complete *****! Ha!
