300 dollar paperweights show up...., 5 months after i paid for them...

Seller is 87-Rexxer-GXL

I ordered a set of a rotors off a user here, paid in full on October 19, 2010...
Didnt receive them in three weeks, contacted the seller, got the run around, forgot to ship them, will ship them on payday etc.
Another few weeks goes by, nothing...
Try to contact seller again, takes a few weeks for a response...
same thing, run around, tried to ship them, got sent back.
Now i was getting suspicious...
being the nice guy i am, i decided to just let it go and take the guys word that they'd show up.
another month passes, nothing..
PM the member again, takes another week or two for a response.
Same thing as before, run around, ship on payday, etc.

Middle of February, still nothing, PM the member needing a tracking number by Friday the 18 of February.
Nothing.
PM the member again, Get a response Monday, tells me that there isnt a tracking number since the item is shipping to Canada. Strange, i have the package in front of me with a tracking number on it...

So February 26 rolls around and i pick the item up from the post office...
Finally i could put my motor together i thought.
Nope, more bullsh!t.

pics of what i recieved.
These items where described as no damage, bearings perfect, etc

definitely not what i received....

First of all, the packagine, completely inadequate, a few pieces of towel in the box, nothing between the rotors.

Second, one bearing is junk, large gouge in it.

And finally, every single apex seals slot is bent to hell.
corners are folded in.
Junk, not even three MM machining will fix it.

After 5 months of runaround. I get this....
Seller wont respond to me anymore.

I should have just filed a paypal dispute when they didnt show up after a month...
Can't be the nice guy it seems....

This is a bad situation.
I hate to hear stories like this.
From the look of the machine marks on them, they are either S5 or S6 rotors. You are correct, the corner seal springs are not S6.

Not trying to be a devil's advocate here as those are clearly unusable as-is.

But 3mm machining would EASILY fix those (if the worst damage is in your pictures, which i assume it is) and that "gouge" in the bearing is very very far from "huge" and is probably completely usable as-is. I bet you could polish most of that out just with some buffing compound on your finger.

It looks like most of that damage is from either shipping (due to bad packaging) or careless disassembly.

The issue is more the fact that the actual part of the groove that encloses the corner seal is bent inwards a large amount.
pictures dont do it justice.
The bearing gouge catches a fingernail with ease. Looks to be from dis-assembly as the rotor was pulled off the e-shaft.
As if a Burr or something was sticking out and it was pulled up along it. if that makes sense.

Thanks for the input

Those things look trashed. Have you tried contacting the seller and a mod to try to help you resolve this issue?

Cant get a hold of the seller.
This was pretty much the last straw in this deal,
I'm just going to wait for a mod to come into this thread and go from there.
Don't feel like getting the run around from the seller anymore.

I'd rather not sell them, i can't see them being usable with all the damage...
Id like to wait until this is worked out either way...

I understand the frustration Brodie. I've been there myself with a pair of rotors that were shipped for clearancing where one was damaged upon return. These kinds of real life examples are the reason why I stress so heavily to folks to treat and pack rotors like they're 200 year old fine China when shipping.

However, on the bright side, both of these are easily repairable if you choose to keep them. One option that Terrh mentioned is the 3mm machining. That'd pretty much nuke any issues with any of the 6 apex seal slots. It's also possible to use a small hand file to remove the nicks in those said grooves. I've had to do it here a bunch of times over the past 10 years or so. The only other thing leftover is if any of the corner seal slots need to be ever-so-slightly re-rounded. That's doable with a Dremel at low speed and an 1/8" x 1/4" 120 grit sanding band.

Good luck and I hope you get your situation fixed up,

B

I ended up just ordering a set of Japan2la, Now that's how things should be packaged!

The thing that makes me wonder about the 3mm machining, is how folded in the corners are, the worst one is bent in at about a 45 degree angle into the corner seal area.

But anyway, the motor is all together now.

Just looking to get some money back, which isnt going well....

It really annoys me to see rotors shipped in **** poor packaging. This isnt the first time either. They should be double boxed with tons of packaging. Theres some threads that show how to package rotors for shipping. To anyone who is going to sell rotors in the future please dont be an idiot and packaged them extremely well.

When I ship rotors I wrap each of them individually then use bubble wrap and the air bags to cushion them. Thats before I put them into the box.

Really sorry to hear about your situation man. Can't go wrong with Japan2LA though!!

As you stated, your best bet would've been to file a paypal dispute shortly after your gut told you this guy was shady...but live and learn. And no, it seems like it's getting harder and harder to be "the nice guy" these days. I know I've gotten burned from being that guy in the past as well.

I had the same thing happen to me with a different member. I never opened the box so by the time I realized how brown paper does not protect two rotors in a flat-rate shipping box.... It would have been fishy on my part to complain. Good on you for being quick-acting.
