Thumbs down Retrospec / c7carbon never again

A quick run down on my dealing with retrospec / c7carbon (forum vendor)
I placed a large order on august 19, it's taken until the past month before I've started to receive any of my parts, I still don't have them all and am being told that I might have a tracking number by the 29th of december for the remainder. I've been informed my order has been produced and ready to ship since october.

Here's the run down:

august 18 enquiries and quotes
august 18 paid for my order and told 3-4 weeks manufacture time
september 15 I request tracking info
september 23 I'm told my order will ship within a few days
september 29 I'm told order will ship shortly
october 7 I'm told my order is complete and will ship within the next week
october 16 I request tracking info
october 19 I'm told that it'll be looked into to see what's happening
october 24 I request update
october 26 I'm told order is being cleared through customs
october 31 I express to Anwar that the situation is a joke and no way to do business
november 1 I am told that I'm absolutely right and that everything is being fixed ASAP
november 5 I request to know what the actual problem is
november 8 I'm told my order is ready and has been for a while and that it had been denied at the customs process a couple of times but will be sent ASAP via a new freight company
november 8 I express concerns as I wish to place further orders but unsure.
november 9 Im told my order is definately going ASAP
november 11 automated email telling me my order is shipment pending
november 16 a tracking number is sent to me
november 23 box arrives with only 2 pieces of order in it, both pieces needed further work by me to get them up to standard
november 23 I request to know what is happening, as I had paid 200+usd in shipping and only received 2 pieces of my order
november 24 I'm told a second box will be sent soon
november 24 complaint lodged with poor quality of parts and poor customer service
november 25 Anwar profusely apologises and offers free parts as compensation
November 25 I respond saying I dont want free stuff, I want service, I want my order which has been delayed for no good reason. I want my order sent within 3 business days via express international or to refund my money - none of these requests were met
december 6 tracking numbers are sent for 2 more parcels (after I had to call international to ask for them), told that another parcel is still yet to come
past fortnight received 2 packages
december 20 I called to find out where the rest of my order is
december 20 I recieve an email saying that my next parcel should have a tracking number by december 29
december 20 I request refund on remainder of parts - no reply
december 20 I call them a few times again, no answer (within trading hours)

This is what over $1000 usd gets you when you pay up front.

Not happy with them to say the least and definately will not be recommending them to anyone.

Anwar from Retrospec sell's part's to Z guy's on Hybridz.org and a few other forum's as well and used to have issues but lately he's been on the ball and selling many part's with happy customers, myself included.

He's a little slow but from what I know without actually visiting the place is that it's a small shop with only a few people producing many part's which take time, especially if the part's ordered aren't selling a whole lot which mean's they can take even more time to prep and make for just the 1 order when they are making and selling mass quantities of other body part's that have to ship out as well.

Also to note that any aftermarket body part will need further work to get " up to standards " as not all car's are 100% identical and will need a body shop or skilled body guy to fit.

It sounds like your located somewhere in Canada, shipping anything up there is a royal pain in the *** which is why I refuse to ship anything up that way. Custom's can stop and hold anything they want for any amount of time they see fit and then either let it through or deny it which can really screw thing's for both parties involved.

Shipping cost of any large body part's is extremely expensive as well, just to ship the front air dam for my 240Z from LA to Sacramento cost me about $100.

I can only imagine what it would cost to safely ship multiple pieces all the way to Canada, $200 sound's pretty darn cheap for shipping cost if you ask me.
I've seen an entire body kit for a 240Z ship from NY to the west coast for nearly $400 only due to the shear size of the panels that needed to be shipped in a safe manner.

Just my .02 cent's for what it's worth.

My order was ready to ship at the start of October - what time frame is acceptable on the planet you live on?

Regardless if I am ordering a $1000 of small pieces or a $3000 hood, the items should look as if someone made an effort, on two of the pieces I've had to spray the back side black because light shines straight through the items, the clear coat which is sprayed on is orange peely and superfluous crap which I've had to use acetone to remove from the face of the items.

Shipping cost is on the money - So far have not exceeded the $200 in shipping

End of the day, I was told September 23 that my order was shiping in a few days.
Today I'm told (after being told it was going through customs 20 days ago) that the remainder of my order should be sent by Decemeber 29 - so either my parts were never done and I've been getting lied to since September 23, or, these guys just don't give a **** and will do whatever pleases them, whenever it pleases them, either way, great business ethics.

I've requested for a refund twice now, I'm betting they'll just ignore that too.

Ah, now that kind of prep work isn't prep it's an unfinished piece of crap rather than a body part.

I'm used to waiting months at a time for part's to arrive for customer's car's as the majority of them are special order from Italy or other countries depending on how hard it is to find the part's if they're even attainable anymore which isn't very normal for most I guess...

Hopefully you get your money back, maybe want to go on over to Hybridz.org and see what they say over there as he had gotten in trouble there a while back but had reconciled and came back with great product earlier this year.

Guess it's going back down hill again
Sucks as they make or should say made some good stuff.

Anwar emailed me today, honoring my request for a refund, it's been refunded, so atleast thats something. It's a pity that it got to this stage as they do have alot of nice looking parts and I had thought about them for my future projects and customer cars, but now I dont know..

If this Guy is in the USA,why did it have to go through Customs.???
something smells there...
Packages don't go through Customs if they are inside the USA.Only time that customs gets involved is if the part goes out of the Country or is getting Imported.

he has had major issues on hybridz.org as well as here. i have dealt with him in the past, his communication is garbage, and so are his parts, none of them fit, and when youre dealing with cf, there is no fitment from a body guy, it has to be spot on the first time. fg sure, but not cf or kevlar.........
basically, this guys parts sucks, but he doesnt suck enough to get booted off this forum, which is sad....

Panda, sorry I didnt see this earlier....first, lets address some of the issues in this thread.

Not one word of this is relevant. You know why? because when a seller tells a customer "I will ship out on ___ date", everything after that is an excuse. I dont want to hear about how things take time. You make it sound like the OP had unreasonable expectations--well guess what?? youre wrong--his expectations came directly from what the seller told him. I'm tired of watching people make excuses for sellers that dont deliver like this. he made multiple promises. he failed to deliver on them. its that simple.
Also to note that any aftermarket body part will need further work to get " up to standards " as not all car's are 100% identical and will need a body shop or skilled body guy to fit.
further work? Yes, I agree. But not work like what was described. When you order CF, you shouldnt be able to see through the piece. And the clearcoat should not need the buyer to make it reasonably smooth. That is simply poor workmanship.

Another excuse. Did you notice that the buyer kept getting promises on new ship dates, and then claims that the boxes were rejected multiple times by customs, but he didnt ever get any tracking info until AFTER all those excuses were used? When you ship something, dont you get a tracking number BEFORE it gets to customs? So, if the seller had told the truth there, panda would have had multiple tracking numbers from all the supposed attempts the guy claims he made. But he doesnt. Do I really need to tell you why?

I can only imagine what it would cost to safely ship multiple pieces all the way to Canada, $200 sound's pretty darn cheap for shipping cost if you ask me.
I've seen an entire body kit for a 240Z ship from NY to the west coast for nearly $400 only due to the shear size of the panels that needed to be shipped in a safe manner.
I could care less what it sounds like-he was quoted that price by the seller, and he paid it. It could have been three bucks--again, the SELLER told him that price. Stop trying to bag on the buyer like that. All the buyer did was place an order, pay for it promptly, and then he got lied to from one end to the other.

I'm making a new rule for this heah section. The next time I see someone step in to try to defend a seller or a buyer that has been this obviously in the wrong with such **** poor excuses, that person's gonna get a few days off to think about it. This place used to be a community that helped each other, that looked out for each other, that worked to stand for what was right even if it meant telling a friend that they were wrong. If I have anything to say about it, thats where we are going back to again.

Panda, I'm glad you got a refund. Is there anything you are still out on this deal? Please let me know.

i just want to add 1 little piece to this.
a number of years ago, there was a huge fight between anwar and a forum member on the cf sunroof panel. he posted that the first one to pm him would get a free panel to test fit and send the pictures.
well, i received the piece a number of weeks later, after being told countless times "ill send it out tomorrow" then weeks would go by.
i didnt care how long it took, i was getting a free sunroof panel
well, when it came in, i slapped it on.......needless to say it fit like garbage, the sunroof seal didnt even fully surround it, there was nowhere to mount the headliner insert, and it was all kinds of warped and was just a terrible piece.
I never went back to them for business, he has terrible communication and just seems to not care about the business or take pride in the pieces they manufacture.

that was just my experience

Damn... I was considering ordering parts from them until I saw this. I tried to e-mail them a few times in the past and thought that the company had fallen out.
