Water Injection will help keep carbon from building up, though the main benefit is in cooling. When your foot goes down, and boost goes up the A/I comes on and intake temps go down..

Depending on what Intercooler you are running you shouldn't *need* water injection with the HP levels you are currently putting out.

It all depends on what your Intake Air Temps look like though..

So what's the consensus on ideal intake temps? Between 20C - 40C?

Ideal would be just a couple degrees over ambient.

I'd try to keep standard temps below 40-50 though... If you see over this with regular driving on a daily basis than I'd look into getting a bigger IC.

But that's just my $.02. When I boost to 1.1 bar I see above these numbers, which is why I went and got A/I... just need to find the time to install it now. Than I'll get a vented hood to further reduce temps and improve air flow... This fall I'll be getting a V-Mount from RE:worx here in the UK.. after that I'll finally be "done" with the power/cooling mods ^_^

Not trying to threadjack janrx7 but have a directly related question.........we see intake temp/combustion temp/exhaust temp drops as the main benefit of AI.....I accept that....but
how much could you expect coolant and/or oil temperatures to drop by adding AI to JanRX7's 300hp stock TT car, especially on a track day with a high ratio of boosted time?
senario: last week 3 FD's were at T-hill in 90+ degree dogday weather, one had vmount/vented hood, the other 2 had alum rads R1 lip, baffles, PFC, bigger SMIC, none of us could run 3 laps without water temps going beyond acceptable......
1-will AI make the difference for us?
2-would you need to remap or could it be used with the present map just for cooling purposes, ie: if you ran out of fluid your temp would go up not you engine go out......

ive been told there is no such thing as a dumb question, but i may have just disproved that theory.......chuck

You don't *have* to map the ECU to account for A/I. I know Aquamist's kits are activated by boost pressure, I believe some have the option of being written into the fuel map so that they will initiate by command from the ECU (correct me if I'm wrong!!).

So it would make sense that you could tune as if you did not have water injection, and simply reap the benefits of cooling (problem here is that you could actually notice a minor loss in peak power by putting more water in the mixture than needed to simply cool). I think the most effective means of taking advantage of Water Injection would be to alter your fuel maps to reflect it, you just need to be mindful of the solutions level (add to the list of fluids regularly checked).

I'm still an A/I newb, but that is the impression I have gotten in my research so far.

AI isn't going to solve any cooling problems. I would add bigger oil coolers and make sure the cars are well ducted. V mounts don't work to well if they aren't completely sealed.
