Using Ethanol in place of Meth

How plausible is this?

I'm having difficulty finding straight Methanol, at a reasonable price, here in the UK from a reliable source. Currently I'm looking at an average of $3.00 per liter of 99% + meth (3.78l = 1 U.S. Gallon).

A buddy of mine's wife works in a lab and can access Ethanol easily. I am tempted to go that route with my A/I mixture. The alternative is to use straight distilled water.

Does anybody have experience using something other than pure Methanol in their mix? If so, I would really appreciate any further info.

I know that windshield washer fluid has Meth in it, though I'm not sure what the percentages are on different brands, and the effects of the cleaning solvents on the engine... I'm hesitent to go this route

Thanks,

Levi

ethanol has almost the same properties as meth, but its not as corrosive, I would use it.

also in my opinion, no need to use distiled water, merely filtered should be enough.

you can do a water/meth mix. 50/50 should be good.

With methanol being that expensive I would just use an inter-cooler and straight water injection...

The local water is extremely hard (I'm talking hardcore lime buildup in 4-5 days inside the kitchen sink if I forget to wipe it out after running hot water) and I can get gallons of distilled water for like a buck a pop, no big deal there.

Thanks for the insight though! I saw the comparison and noticed that Ethanol was just behind Meth on most all the readings, I've just never heard of anybody running it and wanted to make sure there wasn't a good reason

I know that ;-) I was planning on running either a 70/30, or 50/50 mix (though the 50/50 would be easier to regulate on the fly, lol). My question was geared more towards comparing meth to ethanol as the alcy agent. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to be doing something very dumb if I went ahead and used Ethanol since Methanol is very hard to come by here, and expensive as hell when you do find it! hehe

The only problem with that though is that when I come back to the states (I plan on shipping my car at the end of the summer, since I move in Feb and they salt the living **** out of the roads here in the winter) I'd have to get a re-tune to compensate for the meth I would be adding once I get there... As it is now I'm getting a fresh tune from (arguably) the best tuner in the UK with every change I do to my car. So I'd rather have her tuned for a mix here, vice waiting till I get there, hoping that Steve decides to take a road trip to Norfolk or San Diego.

Though, in truth, going straight water is an option I have considered. I *could* just tune for water alone now, than have re:worx add the changes for 50/50 this October/November when I add the v-mount... than just not drive her enough to use up all the meth before I ship it.
