My AEM water injection stealth install

Here's how I installed my AEM kit.

I have stock internals, BNR stage 3 turbos, knightspots V-mount & intake, SMB dp, bonez high flow midpipe and racing beat catback. stock primaries and 1200cc secondaries.

I have 110psi compression on all rotor faces and was conservatively tuned by Nelson at R3 to about 260whp.

The car is clean and only has 29k miles so I want to keep it running happy for a long time. I do intend to track it occasionally and for safety added the AEM kit. I intend to run ONLY distilled water.

I wanted the install to be as clean as possible.

1. I used a euro spec big rear wiper tank which holds a bit over 1 gallon. (thanks supernaut)

2. I mounted the pump between the gas tank and the rear differential.

3. AEM filter tucked up by gas tank.

4. I ran the lines under the car parallel to the fuel lines. The controller was placed in the driver side footwell.

I'm running the 315cc/min nozzle. Everything is working ok. See you at Mazfest.

That looks great. I wish I had that tank, it is a great idea. I use a custom enlarged windshield wiper tank to feed my AEM pump so now I need to relocate a tank for the wiper motor.

Question - Is it okay to have the AI pump located that far back from the nozzle? I thought you needed to ensure the pump was within a few feet of the nozzle so there is no lag in getting water/meth to the source. No expert here but food for thought.

I do like the clean install. It looks great. My AEM controller is exactly where yours is and my LED is retrofitted into my pillar boost gauge.

Were you able to figure a float-switch installation on that tank?

As i understand the AEM instructions, they prefer the pump closer to the water source than the nozzle. The whole system is pressurized anyway so there doesnt seem to be any lag.

I didnt manage to get the float switch in there. The tank is quite narrow at the bottom so the sender would have to be about mid tank which kind of defeats the purpose. I might still go back and put it in anyway as a half-empty alert, but for now i"ll just look down the fill hole occasionally. Because my tune is not water dependent, running out of water is no big issue anyway.

Understood, and I agree from a tuning aspect. Just found them to be a nice reminder...which I need occasionally. I think the pumps are pretty tough, but I don't like to accidentially run them dry for extended periods.
My tank capacity is a little less than yours, even then it doesn't happen often. But I'm thinking of using an old lighted switch from "the fan mod" to kill power to the pump if I need to when I run out and can't refill it right away.

AEM seemed affordable, ubiquitous and proven for a simple 'progressive' adjustable system. Also, it has some simple features some others don't at that price point. I didn't want to get all crazy with a $600+ system which would be nice but overkill for my needs. In retrospect I shouldn't have gotten the kit with the tank.

I can take pics. Basically, I ran the lines under the same plastic cover that protects the fuel lines under the driver's side of the car.

Can you share pictures/information on your custom enlarged windshield wiper tank? Capacity?

Complete agree, was it new or used? Looks to be in great shape.

Man I love this rear install, I basically refuse to mount anything (tanks, batteries, etc.) within the cabin as I love OEM-type look and appreciate these solutions.

it's a pusher pump, the closer to the tank the better, although they are strong enough to pump 8 vertical feet.

OP, really like the install.

Worth it for me too, I'd pay that for that tank.

Any suggestions on where I can get one?

for additional cooling, would you say going vented is your next step? i don' think you would need it at this point.

Vented hood you mean? I dont think i need any more cooling. I ran on track at Mazfest on saturday in 90+ degree weather at Willow Springs Raceway. The highest water temp I saw after a 20 minute session flogging at full boost was 90C which is 194F. Air intake temps stayed mostly in the 30s/40s C.

Well ducted Kightsports v-mount + distilled water/water wetter + water injection = cool, happy engine. YMMV
