I'm addicted now(first AI experiences)
I recently bought a '92 Eclipse GSX as a new daily driver. Being as how I've been reading a lot of the posts in here about AI and the fact I wanted to experiment with it before full-blown use on my RX-7, I decided to try it out on my eclipse.
I bought the Coolingmist basic 150psi kit. Installation was a breeze, it was pretty easy to hide most of the kit and the instructions were decent (though I figured it out without them.) I can get pictures soon if they're wanted, but I basically just tapped the BOV pipe for the nozzle, and the WW res for the feed and mounted the pump in the front bumper. I left the hobbes switch set to 10 psi like it comes, and tapped the vacuum reference that my gauge uses. The hobbes switch is mounted via zipties to the factory solenoid rack. I then used a 50:50 water:meth mixture
Results: Amazing increase in performance. Possibly the best money I spent on the car. I just went to the track tonight (1/8th mile) and had 2 back to back runs- one with meth and one without. Both runs were at 20-21 psi on a stock 14b.
1st run -with meth
8.709@77.08mph
2nd run- without
9.316@70.90mph
Both launches were comparable and shifts were made at the same time. As you can see, I lost .6 seconds and gained 6 mph, in the 1/8th mile. Thats basically a full second in the 1/4. Also it should be noted that the run without the AI had heatsoak like crazy after 1st gear, and had bad knock and sputtering because of this. I still have the puny stock I/C. Also on a run not mentioned, I ran up to 26 psi (oops) and still it had no audible knock or anything of the sort- it pulled hard(not as hard as 20 psi though) through my shift point
Other modifications:
K&N drop-in in a hacked box, hacked MAF, 3" thermal exhaust, DIY boost controller (that I can't figure out), ACT 2100 clutch, 1.5" drop and KYB struts. 300 treadwear tires. It is possible that the ECU has been modified, however, I am not sure.
Cliffs: I'm addicted to meth
