AI cell for road racing

I know many of you tune for drag so I would assume it wouldnt take alot of meth to run a sprint down the lane. My car will be seeing 20 min sessions at the track, and my plan is to remove my IC complete and run meth. Would a 4 gal cell be enough? Plans would be to run straight meth. Goal would be for 450-500rwhp, as of now my current setup had 320hp at 6k 14psi.

while i am aware of the fact that good old meth drops charge air temps a great deal and some have removed their IC and have excellent results in boost i don't recommend it... the IC removes lots of heat all the time and as such is a great help to your engine. further, the heat removed from the IC is additive (really subtractive) to the heat removed from the meth.

OTOH, if you run a FMIC i can see the need to remove it for road racing. you really need a SMIC.

as to fuel cell size... i run 4 gallons. it depends how much meth you will be using. what is your setup? nozzle or solenoid size?

I currently do not any injection system. I was going to start planing those items when i figured out what path I was going to be heading. If I keep my fmic, Ill be lying it down flat, or runnng a smic as you noted to the side of the radiator. Im trying to keep as much of the radiator surface open as possible, and still have room for brake ducting and dual oil coolers. I was hoping to remove the IC all together, for minimize piping, and help with spool.

I am in the same boat, I am trying to get rid of my intercooler also. I was thinking about having a VERY small one pre-compressor that turns on even when not in boost if AIT get high. Would help keep turbo temps down also I would think. Could you see any problems with that?

well you COULD go with a top mount still...if you dont mind doing some work you could make a new scoop for better cooling.

What kind of air temps is the car going to be run in? You have to run a LOT of meth at 450rwhp without an intercooler to have low intake temps if ambient temps are high...

FYI,

Our smart injection unit has the ability to pulse an output. We also have air temp senders. This is one of the applications we are looking at it for. A small nozzle can be made to puse at what ever interval you want based on the intake temp. You will need solenoid as well. You can make the system pulse on/off from 100 MS to 25 seconds.

If you want to read a little about it, feel free.

I will be glad to answer any questions if you have them. Good luck!

Im guessing ambient temps will be in the 90-100 range during the summer time in the NE. I was looking back at the NON-INTERCOOLED thread, and noticed cozmos car, running injection and no IC. However, the car Im guessing is more street biased.

I don't know what it was about that car, maybe the aquamist injectors, but that thing ran Super cool compared to the other cars I have done. I have ran several other cars with the same turbo, same setup basically, just not aquamists kit and they just don't run as cool, even at lower boost pressures..

I am on the same quest as you, although my car will be street driven, and if I get 425HP out of it, I'll be impressed

As of now, I'll be running rice's racing pre turbo system; it is definately a cool and yet simple system. Once I finish my engine setup, I plan on adding some a AI kit probably the FJO, but not sure yet; got to finish everything else first.

What other brands have you used as a Pre-Turbo setup?

Its just been stuff I've made with parts sourced from the usual vendors. Only difference is I've been using SS TFE hose and not that plastic crap. Same pump, and jets that coolingmist and devil's own offer.

Did his car ever seen any decent track time? I may keep the IC, but ill be lying it down like the 1st gen comp manual says to do with a oil cooler, that way I can run more of a 50/50 mix.

Never saw the track, it was all just street driving. I am trying to figure out a way to get those aquamist injectors installed on a car I did a full water alchy system, I'll let you guys know the results.
