SM4 or E11V2?

Hi guys,

I am looking for opinions on the Autronic SM4 versus the Haltech E11V2.
To me, the only advantage the Sm4 is traction control and knock control ( and both of these features still do not work).

The ECU is going on both a 20B and 13B RE. GT47 88mm turbo. 35psi on the 13B and 18psi on the 20B.

To me the only advantage to the e11v2 is price...

The advantages to the sm4 are:

Far more flexability for optional I/O divices.
More accurate ignition events.
Far better injector firing stratagy.
Built in fueling logic equils more accurate target AFR's.
Easier and safer tuning due to built in logic.
Super fast and accurate autotuning of base fuel tables.
Closed loop boost control.
Ect. Ect.

Autronic is Just a better system. But I still like Haltech.

I agree with you, but so far with the SMC and SM2 on other cars, they make the same power no matter what they run - Autronic, AEM, PowerFC, Haltech, etc... It is all about the little options and extras between both units I believe.

I do not use the autotune, but I like the Autronic logger that runs on the same screen as your main map

any system with a good tune will make power and run an engine. Its the quality of how the engine runs in all conditions and how easy it is to get there that makes the Autronic stand out...

Ray Hall ( Autronic Australia) REQUIRES all dealers to sell at the suggested retail. If they do not, they get dropped as a dealer.
So the best thing to do is to pay the retail price, and get the support that the dealer offers, versus buying the SM4 from a small inexperienced shop, and be left on your own when installing/tuning it...

Autronic units are to be installed and supported by Autronic dealers like Enzo and JetEngineDoctor.

You will be hard pressed to buy one over-the-counter unless you find one on E-bay, but do not expect to get support from Ray if you go that route.

Autronic makes great product. Autronic uses VE which makes tuning the fuel requirements so much easier.

I hope that's not their professional stance. One of the dealers quoted me $1800 to install it. I'm sure that's a great value for some people, but as a life long DIYer and someone that has gotten burned just about every time I let someone else work on my car, I'd buy a different ecu (eg M800) before allowing a shop to do the install. Modifying cars is a hobby and for a lot of people being the one doing the work is a big part of the fun. It's a shame they don't support this better.

I dont understand your comments. I'm probably the one your referring too and i didn't like that comment. First off my installs are second to none. Every wire is shrink wrapped with raychem dr25 and labeled and i use mil-spec auto sport connectors like they going out of style. IF you don't want that level of wiring then i could work with you.

Also what's so bad about the support, your only a couple of hours away from me, and i'm always available over the phone. You have the support you just don't want to use it. You called me for a price and then called several other dealers and they pointed you to me but yet you refuse to go ahead with anything because you want to shop around for the best price. Then claim support sucks or my prices are high?

Autronic will not sell you an ecu and then expect you to do the install yourself or goto forums with your install problems, tuning problem or basic level questions.
This is why there are dealers. Go ahead and buy an M800 without going thru there dealer network and see what support you get.

There's plenty of other ecu's for diy's, like yourself, that want everything handed to them, or forums to help them install & tune. This is not the way Autronics does things.
If that's the support you want then maybe look into these other ecu's

You're completely misrepresenting the situation. I was never shopping around for a price. My car is being assembled by myself and a top chassis builder in a different state. It's a major pita for me to ship it over to you just to have you wire up an ECU. Plus, as I said above, this is a hobby for me and part of the fun is doing the work. I don’t know why you are going out of your way to be rude to me about it. I went out of my way to AVOID even mentioning what state the dealer I talked with was in. You said you were concerned about the ECU getting a bad reputation so I tried to work with you on that by giving you an opportunity to check over the install and even paying you to do it. You didn’t agree to this, and again said you have to install it. I told you (politely) that didn’t work for me and called 2 other dealers. The first didn’t know what an SM4 was, but the second was very helpful. If you consider this price shopping you’re beyond help. I still don’t understand what you guys have against educated customers or at least giving consumers the opportunity of educating themselves.

You were trying to buy an SM4 when hardly anyone has even installed one yet. These are not easy ecu's to install. Setup is one of the most difficult things to do with an autronic and especially your application with multiplexer for 3 rotors. I told you if you wanted to use an SM4 it would have to be installed and tuned by me otherwise you would have to wait until were comfortable with customers installing it on the own. Having you do it and then me having to redo it doesn't work for me anymore. I've been thru this many times. And i don't have time to walk you over the phone with basic install questions, it would be much easier for me to just do it.

I'm NOT trying to be rude to you, i take offense to you making posts that our support sucks when you don't want to use it.

Enzo:

I'm not disputing any of that. My reply was direct at Zack not you. I mentioned a price quote for the install that I received from a dealer (that you later revealed was from you) to illustrate how frustrating Zack's statement would be if correct for people that don't want to have someone else install it. This has nothing to do with your reasoning for wanting to do it, nothing to do with the reasonableness of your price quote, and nothing to do with the quality of your work.

I don't want to mix opinions with facts. I believe Autronic does not want to provide support to non-customers (eg by opening their forum up to the public), and non-dealer customers. That's fine. I don't agree with it, but it's a non-issue for me because I'm not spending ~$2400+ with some vender off ebay, and I'm not buying a used ECU. However, if Autronic is not going to provide support in the way of a manual and user base network unless the ecus are installed by dealers that is pretty disappointing.

whats so hard about them ?let said that a person that have install a few ecu on the past with great succes wants to try an autronic he would not get any support from the company just because hes not a dealer.

Thats just rude, they are just following procedure and trying to get an ecu working properly on someones car, I know what its like to have to follow after someone else that thought they could do it, did it wrong and then had me redo it; takes twice as long plus the time you spend on the phone with them when you tried to help them the first time. Its frustrating and time consuming, and time is money in this case.
I met Enzo once and he was the nicest person and answered all my questions I had for him without me dropping a dollar on him, he also has a good running car and a good rep around the area, your comment is unnecessary and unwanted, go buy your M800 and install it, dont go saying people are stuck up for trying to do things right and make a living.
