Talking Rebuild or fit an import

Hi everyone,

Hi every1 I am a true rotor-lover and have had my series 1 for about 4 yrs, before this I had a 180 sx which was fun but with the heavy assed sterring, the sound and the forgiving nature of this serires 1 when goin hard through the hills of Adelaide, I am going to keep this car foreva, however recently with a rear water seal/jacket going and the engine not wanting to turn over I am contemplating to take the car down to a workshop and have the engine pulled out and replaced with an import, this is about 3.5k or is a rebuild on the current one the way to go???? Any ideas appreciated. Thanks

1979 Rx7

s. 5 13B (not spinnin')
full rotor-flow system with xtractors
many braided lines
H.D clutch

I would go rebuild for sure, say you get an import engine for lets say $1000 and it pops itself in a months time, where will you been then $1000 down. If you can afford it and plan on keeping it go for the rebuild. I have made the mistake of buying FD engines second hand and have them not last long. Up to you man but I know what I would do.

An import is definitely a lottery if you don't use a reputable buyer (compression test & removed from a running car is what I would look at)

As a self confessed rotor-lover I think you should rebuild. As you are looking at keeping the car for a long time the initial investment will pay for itself in time

rebuild definitely, you will know how much your engine has left.

get in early and dont wait for the engine to explode. Will be cheaper!
