the standard of living is less than the usa, you will be suprised at how expensive everything is and how low the pay. BUT if you can make do without have the newest and best of everything and can haggle for a top salary that'll make a huge difference

nz'ers like to say the quality of life it better as there is less stress, hardly any guns etc. housing is WAY out of step with pay at the moment so don't think of buying until after the bubble has burst...renters market at the moment

but if you are coming from frisco your quality of life must be pretty good already right?

You are wrong

What is this about the standard of living being lower? Costs etc??? NZ is very similar to Australia as far as costs go. I am not too sure of the costs in the USA but I can assure you owning a car in NZ is very cheap and has one of the widest range of cars available in the world. The standard of living is what you make it like anywhere in the world, there are fantastic areas and some not so great ones just like any country in the world. What part of NZ, Nth Island, Sth Island?? As far as the newest and best of everything NZ produces some of the most state of the art items that are then exported probably to USA. Just take a look at Team NZ, it bet the American contingent in the americas cup with half the budget and the technology was just as good if not better.
Pay- Generally is lower however so is housing, it is a really good investment to buy in some areas of NZ and is not out of line with other countries, why is it that there are so many people investing if it is so bad. I don't mean to be negative about the previous comments however when vague statements are made that are not correct I have set the story straight.

You're trying to beat the smog laws arent you?!!

As said above, housing market is a bit out of whack at the moment, and interest rates are on the rise (7.xx%!!)

It all depends on what industry you work in too - the IT market is picking up a lot these days, so you could possibly land a job who would sponsor your residency application

Overall, grest place to live... I think the only time I've heard my american friends here ranting is about our sad excuse for broadband (2mb down/192kb up)

I stayed out Muir Beach when I worked for a Dot Com in Frisco. Lovely place
