Some of the stations around me are still carrying E70 and a few are carrying E85. Right now, I believe I have a mix between E70 and E85 in my tank and I'm getting tuned next weekend.
How are you guys dealing with this? Are you carrying multiple tunes around and switching between different tunes depending on what fuel you have available?
Can we not rig up a o2 sensor that will compensate?

The place I usually goes knows exactly when they switch from winter to summer blend. If they don't know or are still on E70 I would question how good any of that fuel is as it is most like old. The stations around me switched in Mid April. I believe they look at number of days that don't go below 30 deg. Just don't switch until the station you use does and do so on as close to an empty tank as possible.
I have not noticed much difference between the two blends a few afr maybe. Though I have been tuning through the change over as I changed injectors during that time. I would suggest upgrading to a Haltech with dual maps. Then have both tuned or learn to tune it yourself and have two maps for the different mixes.
I would cruise the fuel out as ethanol doesn't act as badly as gas does with lean afr's during cruise and part throttles. Running closed loop would help your part throttle and cruise afr's.

I was looking into this, the price of the gauge is not bad I beleive $200 but the flex fuel sensor you have to buy from GM is over $600.

Well it's just not the gauge that is valuable but the 0-5v out put based upon ethanol percentage. He could take that output and pipe it into the trim function to make gross adjustments to the fuel table automatically.

Yes I have, I now use the same station as per what fritts is saying. I went and filled up once car was on E, and as soon as I tried to start, I had to crank it for about a minute before it would fire. It ran but was stumbling.

That is difficult without some sort of alcohol content test kit. The station I use they have no clue between e70 and e85, pretty funny seeing the attendant come running out screaming noooo you can't use that gas. I use it in my rx2

I gave up and made several calls yesterday to the corporate office to moto-mart yesterday. I was finally able to talk with the chief fuel engineer. They've been carrying E85 since May 1st. He said that's also when they change to summer gas. WTF Summer Gas? Never heard of such a thing.
Also, he acted suprised that I knew about them switching to E70 during the winter months............. like the public wasn't supposed to know.

What kind of test did you do? also I see Evo guy's are using a gauge made by Zeutronics some sort of content analyzer. There is a video on youtube.
I don't beleive them with that winter summer ****, it will get topped off with e85. I had one attendant tell me that he can't remember when the last time they got a delivery. That gas I don't think sells well in NY but I see a **** load of GMC's running around with the flex fuel badge.

I did a half *** test over the weekend, but my math is ridiculous and I ruined my wifes measuring cup.

Get a ml bottle add 25 ml of water to it and then 75 ml of your fuel to the container.
Allow it to separate (this takes a bit of time).
Now record the variance in ml that the water increased (because mixing these two chemicals sometimes results in a 4 percent absorption rate) you can then multiply that times 1.04 to get your ml of Ethanol. Then divide that by 75 ml and multiply that times 100 to get your percentage.
For example: If our 75 ml of fuel was 85 percent Ethanol we would see a change of 63.75 ml into the 25 ml of water. BUT typically four percent will disappear into absorption. 86.2 ml is that final water ml recorded minus 25 ml of water equals 61.2 ml total which should be multiplied times 1.04 to recover the lost absorption percentage. Divide that by 75 and you get your percentage.

lol I read about a process like this I am going to give it a shot.

E70 is winter E85 is summer blends. E70 is used for cold starting issues. Changeover is around Sept/Oct and April/May time period, or whenever temperatures are below or above 30 degrees for a certain number of days (probably depends on the area). That's straight from my relative that runs the mixing station.
