I'm not sure about the 20b stationary gears, I didn't know they had a different tooth pattern.
As far as tuning ease, it has seemingly unlimited possibilities, BUT the software is a little much to comprehend for a beginner. I have hooked up, and done minor tuning on a friend's E6K, and the software on the AEM is a good bit more difficult than haltech's software. I'm starting to get over the learning curve with the software though, and once I have a solid understanding, and have my car tuned to the max, I will be glad to help any other people with problems (like there are more than 10 FD owner's out there with the AEM).
No you do not need an ignition amp to run the AEM. When I first put mine in, the car got no signal from the CAS, which was easily fixed by putting a washer behind the sensors to get them closer to the trigger wheel.
