AEM - OMP Clicking

Hi guys,

I'm a uk FD3S owner (Jap import) I'm wondering if its normal for the OMP to "click" rapidly when you key on. It starts after a few seconds. If this is normal behavour cool. If not im going to have to figure out whats wrong with the startup cal or the differance between US and JAP wiring.

Ps - I've tried another OMP and get the same result.

Cheers
Leon

Thats a new one for me - I've not heard the OMP click, ever. I dont think the wiring is different between the OMP's but I can't prove it just yet.

Let me ask around

Cheers hwnd, I've asked the various clubs for a JAP wiring diagram but no luck as of yet. Am I right in saying the OMP is controlled by the DC stepper motor function?

pretty much so it's a stepper motor.

Guys over at AEM suggested it may be the DC motor #1 target table.

set this now to:

22.265625 26.5625 30.859375 34.765625 39.0625 43.359375 48.4375 52.734375 57.03125 60.546875 63.28125 66.796875 70.3125 73.828125 77.734375 81.25 85.15625

As suggested will try this tonight and post feedback - would have hoped the target map for the startup map would be right but ho hum its all a learning curve for a VERY powerfull ecu

I have no real map on there yet other than the base map. with a few tweeks, the recomendations fixed my OMP click and that now seems to work, I also had to change the MAP sensor to be used for load rather than TPS? o.0 Anyway car is running now just need to confirm the timing and then start to tune.

Its a street ported engine with a big Turbonetics T40e turbo. running 4x 850's Got an AEM AFR to wire up and a HKS EGT (hope the hKS has a 5volt feed but getting any information on those gauges is like hens teeth)

I have a few of those 60mm HKS gauges (never used 'em) still in the box.. Let me see if I can find directions on 'em.

That would be great! i've got 2 of the 60mm's temperature gauges, just trying to find replacement sensors too or what resistance they offer at select temperatures to find a suitable sender. but anyway that's off topic!

Hi Leonh,

I have a desktop simulator I'm building and ran into this very problem. The clicking was getting very annoying.

My Solution: Go to "Setup", "Advanced Setup", "DC/Stepper Motor Control", "Motor Control"

In the "Parameters" box, you should see "Motor Step Counter" decreasing and looping while you hear the clicking noise coming from the OMP. The reason it's looping is that the "Motor #1 Target" is lower then the "Motor #1 Position".

Since every pump is slightly different, you have two that don't happen to close as much as the one AEM had. I don't either!! Mine stops at about 16% of "Motor #1 Position" and the "Motor #1 Target" is around 14%. This means the motor will continue trying to close, but since it can't close any further it just sits there and clicks.

On the "Motor#1 Target Table" move the lower leftmost edge of the line up slightly to just above the percentage of your "Motor #1 Position" - For example: If your "Motor #1 Position" is 15% then move the lower left edge of the "Motor #1 Target Table" to 16%. This will allow your OMP to get mostly closed and will stop the clicking without really changing the rest of the cal.

It does the same thing at high rpm and boost, but I don't mind it trying to push the valve further open on that end since it's safer for the engine and you're (usually) not there for too long.

This fix is basically the same as what AEM told you to do, but I wanted to explore a little more of the "Why" we do things instead of just the "How" we do them.

Hope this was useful to somebody,
- motormanalpha

Hey thank you for taking the time to reply to that! It's nice to actually understand what the numbers you key in are doing. With that im going to revisit the Cal and see how far I can take my stepper motor eachway. (I run premix as well)
