You can setup boost v gear or boost v speed. I find speed a little easier to setup, but its not that hard either way. The NEWER instructions on setting up boost control are very good so READ them on the aem electronics forum before you try and fiddle with anything.

The AEM internal boost control is pretty sophisticated or a blunt tool depending on how you set it up.
