e1280s

Does the e1280s have know control, or is it only an input. Will i need to use a stepper motor add on if I want to use the stock omp? What are the main differences between the e1280s and e440. I dont think i need the e12820, but i like the oscilloscope feature. Is it advisable to mount the adaptronic ecu in the engine bay. I want the shortest harness possible.

Hi there,

What do you mean by know control?

You can control the OMP directly with 4 aux outputs, a stepper motor driver is used with the Select (e.g e440) to save on outputs and just use 2 from the ecu. With the 1280 you have plenty of them (aux outputs) so I thinks it won't be an issue.

The 1280 is more powerful and more flexible than the 440, but it does require more time to set up. The features will generally be straightforward to use in a 440. For most cases, it is recommended that the ECU should be placed inside the car.

You can find more information here:
e1280s Fully Configurable ECU | Adaptronic
e440d Universal Select ECU | Adaptronic

Cheers.

The stock location for the fd ecu is just fine. If ypu have to put the ecu in the engine, then don't. The difference in harness length is negligible as you would have to find space that wouldnt be too hot or exposed to water or excessive vibration, etc.

I am building my e1280s harness for the stock location and I don't think the harness will be very long at all.

Mark: I think Mr Will means knock control.

The 1280 does have knock control and it's more sophisticated than the knock control on the 440 because it's windowing. However as I keep telling people, you shouldn't rely on knock control to save an engine, especially a rotary.

The 1280 is a completely different beast from the 440 - it's really intended for people doing prototypes with alternative fuels or other custom cases eg four variable cams and dual drive by wire. The built in scope feature is very handy I do agree, but because the 1280 is so flexible, the software is a lot more complicated to use than the 440.

So unless you really need the 1280, eg if you're running a 20B engine, I'd recommend the 440. It's much easier to use and that will make your life a lot easier, which in turn makes out life easier

Got it. Now I just need to decide on the universial or the plug in. I like having a new harness but the plug in would be easier. Any plans on a software update to enable the scope feature on the 440? Is that even possible?
