Adaptronic emod13 base timing setup
Hi guys,
Can you please confirm this is the correct way to setup the base timing on the emod13, for an RX8:
Best regards
Can you please confirm this is the correct way to setup the base timing on the emod13, for an RX8:
- Start the engine (you need to find a base angle value that can allow you to do this).
- In Eugene, go to Triggering -> General Settings > Timing lock enable -> Timing lock (Rotary).
- Attach the timing light clip to the front rotor leading spark plug lead (I have read in some places that the trailing is used, what is the correct one?).
- Increase or decrease the Base Angle (BTDC) value, until the mark on the pulley matches the front cover mark.
- Increase the revs and make sure that the timing stays still.
Best regards

That is the correct timing mark on the Rx-8 front cover.
You can just lock all spark plugs to -5( don't use rotary setting), and then check for the -5 ( 5 degrees ATDC) mark on the Rx-8 crank trigger wheel, there are no marks on the pulley itself, that would be for an FC3S Rx7 only. FD also are on the trigger wheel.
The Rx8 trigger wheel has a white dot over an arrow in one of the missing teeth sections, this is -5.
If the base map is off, its usually only be a degree or two FYI. So you will see this mark should be very close to your timing light with the ignition lock on at -5 degrees.

Thanks for answering Turblown, yes you're right, there is only a mark on the trigger wheel, nothing on the pulley, I was lookingat the wrong pulley .
Also, where do I attach the timing light clip on the front rotor, is it the leading spark plug or the trailing one?
Best Regards
