20b+FC Hood clearance

My hood is about an inch and a half from closing. It hits the T/B elbow and the front portion of the upper manifold. I will be cutting out some of the under-hood reinforcement/cross bracing to clear the hood....

My question is... It will clear right??? I swear it almost looks like it won't close, even after cutting... Can some of you post pictures of what was cut to make it fit

NA hood clears fine if you cut out all the bracing on the inside.

^ That being said, it should definitely fit either way. I had the TII hood when I did my FC build, and it was as you described, but ultimately fit when the skeleton was cut away. I only removed enough to clear the mani and then box welded the end to try to retain as much rigidity as possible. It actually ended up being really trick looking because when you looked down the hood scoop, the "3" of the 3 rotor was totally visible, and if you leaned down to really look down the scoop the whole "3 ROTOR" was visible.

All you need is an angle grinder, a chisel/flathead, and a hammer

I assume you built your own mounts as well? I made mine and the front of my oil pan is about 3mm away from the steering rack

I had hood clearance issues when I used the Banzai Racing mounts (probably the same as all other 20B mounts).

I ended up doing something completely custom which moved the engine back about 6-7" and down another 2-3". The entire engine sits behind the steering rack now and the intake manifold is clear of the hood by about 4":

Mine is also mounted about 1/8" above the steering knuckle, and the NA hood misses clearing by about 1". Cutting the bracing on the NA hood would not fix this. However, the gutted TII hood fits just fine.

In other words, you were misleading people when you posted that the NA hood would fit if the bracing is cut.

I consider having to take an angle grinder, chisel, and a hammer to a stock hood a "clearance issue". But yea, it fit fine after that.

Nice suggestion though that I'm just here to randomly mislead people for my own pleasure.

In that case I would like to ask the same question as bcool. What kind of mounts did you use? Even with cutting the bracing off the NA hood it would still not fit with FC rubber mounts.

A combination of the Banai Racing cosmo conversion mounts and Mazdacomp solid mounts.

That won't fit on a stock engine. Therefore, I assume that you didn't use the stock oil pan or modified the steering rack position?

That was using the stock oil pan with the steering rack in the stock position. I have no reason to try and mislead anyone and am simply posting my experiences.

As I mentioned above I'm not using that setup anymore otherwise I would take some pictures more closely of the fitment; there are probably some in the thread regarding the buildup of my car.

I am using the RPM 13b-re/20b Cosmo mounts... I am sure they work great for the 13b, but the mounts are too low for the 20b and require shimming of about a 1/2 inch to get the oil pan to clear by a **** hair (the steering rack in the stock location).. and yes I am running N/A

here are some pictures of the rough cut i made to my hood to clear the manifold and T/B elbow

Not to hijack but its FC hood related. Ive been saving up and thinking about the conversion but I was going order a Speed machine CF TII hood anyways. Will it fit and what mounts do I use? Oh yea it will be boosted

Having the motor lower and closer to the center of the car improves weight distrbution.
