Just recently had lucky7 do my rebuild, about 2 weeks ago.
I bought some low mileage housing from a forum member; had one of the housings resurfaced by Goopy Performance. Went with Pineapple Racing heavy duty water seals and Goopy apex seals (i couldnt decide on seals so i flipped a coin). And the rest was OEM. Also had them do a streetport.
Im in the middle of a slow build so thats all i have.

If i were to do it again, i think i would buy a reman and have it streetported.

PIC for no reason.

Each of their kits have their positives and negatives:
  • Atkins is known for softer seals. This can make them a little more brittle, but reduces wear on the housings.
  • Rotary Aviation is harder, but causes more wear/chatter on the housings. Also, the Rotary Aviation coolant seals are difficult to install (so much so, I gave up using them and used OEM coolant seals).
  • Many people have had good luck with Pineapple's HD Water Seals.
  • You can never go wrong with OEM.

I voted 'other', only because I rebuilt myself (with technical help from an experienced member) using OEM, but sourced most parts through MAZDAMOTORSPORTS.

No problem that was the point .. so anyone that either wants to tackle there rebuild or take it somewhere has an idea what to expect....
I know myself im still debating ... starting to think about reman and tearing it down to port...
Might even keep my old block...
Before I decide think im going to pull motor and tear it down see how bad it is

A reman from Ray is likely a new or almost new engine. I just put one in, every visible part was new.

I selected OEM. I use OEM rebuild kit + gaskets with Iannetti ceramic apex seals.

Just wondering ....From everyones experiences rebuilding ... what are the odds a motor needing to replace ...purchase new housing, rotor or both?
