just curious how you guys get your cars in the air? Anyone have thier own lifts? Or just using the ramp method.

My dad is saving money for a lift and my friend owns a gas station so I have a lift if need be.

 

ya, thats the way to go, i have a lift, but havnt set it up in years. Theres no point, theres not much you cant reach with a jack and stands.

 

if jacks dont fit under the front, drive your car on a 2 by 4. if thats not enough, put more 2 by 4's....... works every time

 

ramps, jacks, and stands. We looked into buying a lift and making payments on one, for there's 3 of us 3rd gen owners in one house here. The only problem that didn't go along with that investment was the condition of our garage and the unwillingness of our landlord to update the substandard condition of the place.

 

two car jack one from FD, and the other from Toyota Truck. Plus two stand. Thats all.

4 corners, and one on either the tranny or the differential if needed to balance on an uneven surface.

 

I made a lift out of rope and pullies. I use a system of 20 pullies on each side and attach the rope to my mirrors. It takes about an hour to lift the entire car up but you'd be amazed at the mechanical advantage of the pullies!

Okay in all seriousness (that was a JOKE, do NOT try at home) I use standard jackstands at a standard 3-ton floorjack. If you can't get the jack under the car, jack up the side sill first just enough to unload the suspension but not raise the car off the ground. When you lower the jack the car will not fully settle allowing you to slide the jack to the front cross-member. The rear is simple - just use the differential housing. NEVER raise the car off the ground by putting a jack under the oil pan, or the suspension mounting points - always use the subframe.

2 ton floor jack and stands. Never had an issue. But man a lift would be nice...

 

45 pieces of solid wood.. jack up with the fd jack.. slide the wood piece in and take the FD jack out some of my fren has their car lowered and can't even fit a jack under the side.. so we end up makin a steps of wood piece and let the car drive up the wooden made step

 

I have a suspension/tire lift.

It rocks

 

I use a sears jack and lift the car up and place wood blocks under the wheels that I need to get the correct height.

i gotta question, anything wrong with jacking one side of the car up by the fram rails, placing a jack stand there, and then jacking up the other side and placing a stand there?

 

I bought a piece of 2 X 10 wood. I cut two 24 in pieces and two18 inch pieces. Screwed the 24 inch pieces to the 18 inch pieces to make my own ramps. Gets the car up high enough to get the jack under the subframe, but you only need 4 inches of ground clearance to get them up the ramps. Works for me.

 

thats what i do, i got tired of driving on 2x4's. you'll be fine like that.

1 alluminum racing jack
2 ramps for jacking from front.

jack from one side, lift both front and rear tires, then put 2 jack stands. Go the other side, jack it up then put 2 jack stands.

 

Autozone and Advance sell some really cheap ($30-$35) reinforced plastic ramps. They're rated for over 3000 # each, and have rubber feet to keep them from sliding. Makes oil changes, jacking the front up, etc. sooooo easy.

My stock suspension (for now ) clears it w/ no problem. I don't have any sort of freaky Batmobile front airdam/bumper, though.

 

Rhino Ramps. I picked up a pair from the local auto parts store for $25.

 

I have these and my stock sprung R2 starts to scrape the front spoiler. Ouch. Wood planks in front helped though.

 

Jeez, are you seriously using a spare tire jack? Are you trying for a Darwin award?
