Are you going to drive your FD before the world ends?
So I heard the world was ending soon, and there's a lot of immobile rx7's out there. Is your project or broken automobile going to be drivable in 2012? What is your new years resolution for your FD?
Mine is to get this pile of bare car running:

When exactly is the world set to end? :P
My engine has low compression (~90psi) and I'm looking for a replacement. Last time running was when I added some fuel stabilizer... it said to idle it for at least 10 minutes but I found myself sitting in there in the drivers seats for sooooooooooo much longer than that :P
Will likely not start again until I get a new engine in. Sigh.

Truth! I personally don't believe the world is going to end next year because some Mayan said it would 2000+ years ago, but you never know what the next day holds. I would like to drive my FD before **** goes down.
And thanks again for the car Fritz
I sure hope mine is running to some degree. I am in the same boat as you but you have an interior and probably a braking system. time to order some stock parts and then I have a motor to put in.

Its not going to end ON 12-21-12, its gonna be the START of the end on that day. According to the Mayans.
And lol @ all that. And those who believe. This was supposed to happen earlier this year and some religious group made like 12 million because of idiots buying into this crap.
We were supposed to die the second of the year 2000 and nothing happened.
Be scared of mother nature, not some bs Mayan story. Because mother nature, you CAN'T stop.
Lol to answer the op. My fd is running so i'll continue to drive it like normal. If it breaks, i'll fix it. Like normal.

lol @ the thread title. I just got back from a drive Seems like there are tons of them that don't run, for one reason or another. Kinda sad Everyone has different priorities for their car, some people want to do all this crazy stuff, generally that will extend the build time, not to mention cost $$$$$, which in turn may further extend the build time to raise funds. Others just want to drive it, in spite of little things that need fixing.
Like me. My paint needs TLC, the interior could use some new plastics, my glovebox is broken, but whatever. I can drive it
New year's resolution is to get these new (used) CCW classic wheels shod with tires and do more autocrossing!

I believe some people overdo it on their car, especially when they lack funds or time. Because there is no other reason to have an fd down for months or even years at a time if you have money and time.
That said I find it funny for the people that don't have running fd's yet still continue to keep the car down because perfection is needed. Then when all is said and done they put the car up for sale lol. I have seen This time and time again. Just fix the car to the point of being driveable and just enjoy.
My fd is no where near perfect. My suspension sucks, I have an exhaust leak and the new evo-r headlights I just installed don't have a perfect fit (I knew about this common problem before purchasing), but I don't care.
The car is driveable so I don't want to fiddle with it making it worse or give it unnecessary downtime.

I agree with Mdpalmer, 1qwik7, and tem120.
Don't get me wrong, I love to see large builds with great attention to detail. I commend the great patience and motivation it takes to build something that incredible. But almost every one of those builds that gets completed end up getting sold right away or never driven because they are scared of breaking it or even scared of the ridiculous power and noise their car is now making.
I'm building my car from basically scratch. While now is the perfect time to stick a single turbo in it and do some hot-roddery to it, I'd rather just put a good stock engine in it with a good pair of stock twins in it and just drive it. I will be upgrading the cooling system and a few things here and there, but nothing too extreme. The car will be running next year, Regardless of my partially missing interior and various scratches in the paint The hot-roddery, paint, and interior will come later. But for now, I'm gonna get this car on the road and enjoy it!
Mdpalmer, those CCW's are some of my favorite wheels ever. I may be getting some myself too.

i have had my 7 down for three years now. One due to spending money on refurbishing the house(a better investment than a car), one year due to me and my ex breaking up( "no access" to the car as i moved too far away to go there daily to do work on it) and one year now to rebuild the car from scratch together with rebuilding my life as i manged to buy her out of the house and take the hole mortage.
It will be 100% tip top when spring comes, new engine, new everything, every bit washed, primed and repainted, and my life is back together again.
When the 21st of december comes, i will, despite promising myself not to do it again, drive it that winter day. I drove the FD for one year in the winter time, and man that is one hell of a good wintercar with that perfect balance and rear diffed drive! Just to prove the "believers" wrong about the 21st. Personally, for me, the 21st of december 2012 is a friday, and its the beginning of weekend and beertime!
