Given that the FD is about 10 years old - What parts from newer Mazda's are completely transferrable yet offer like or better capabilities???

I'm thinking the rearview mirror, steering wheel, airpumps, stereos, side blinkers, etc.

Please share your knowledge here!

 

You can use the lugnut/wheel lock kits off of newer 626's.

 

I bet that new RX8 engine would bolt right up.

 

Yes it does, but it is a high compression engine so.....
NO TURBO FOR YOU!!!!
I asked Chris from RP and if you are going to run with turbos the engine has to be low compression.
Just like a piston engine.

 

Yeah! i heard that too. new engine. lower toxic level, lower HP, speed up slower, worse worse worse sux!

Any of the '99 bodywork and lights

929 master cylinder

Efini y-pipe

wheels

Efini key, wheel caps, badges etc

miata thermoswitch

jspec padded armrest that replaces ashtray

big brakes from the RS

 

So how about stuff off of the newer Mazda 6's?

 

This is not true.. Although it is not the best situation to turbo a higher compression engine. You can do it. But you will not be able to run very much boost..

The motor mounts are in a different place. In short, alot more then just the 'engine' needs to swapped in. Essentially everything electrical needs to go in too,as the the throttle bodies (two) are 'drive-by-wire'. No idea if even the rear housings matches the bell housing of the FD. The main problem is that the Renesis motor is much more thermodynamically efficient than the FD's 13B engine. This means that you won't have the same abundant exhaust heat energy to spool the turbos quickly, and for Mazda (if they were to do it themselves for the next gen RX-7...which they probably won't), they'd have to tackle the additional problem of not enough exhaust heat to properly warm up the cats for cold start emissions-- even the pre-cat. They'd probably have to stick the pre-cat between the engine and the turbo, like the Sub WRX.

 

yep. and even with the motor in n/a form... by adding a header you are not going to get the same jump in performance you one did. it will act as a "normal" motor.
