yet another question: where to get water pump nipples?

So I have my water pump housing off and two of the nipples (yay, nipples! ) have almost completely rusted through. I'm afraid that soon they will break and then I will have a leak in my coolant system. It looks as though they are insert into the housing itself. Is there any way to get replacement nipples or do I need to buy a whole new water pump housing. I'd like to avoid that, if possible. Sorry for all the questions, and thanks again, guys.

Not sure if the nipples are replaceable items. Cal Ray @ Malloy Mazda 1-888-533-3400 he will know.

Another option would be to tap out the holes for a AN fitting That you can attach a hose to. Thus useing the housing that is still good and just adapting it to work for you.

This type of fitting with the Barbed end that a hose goes on.( The one with the yellow base washer) And the adapter to the left of it....OR The one to the right.

It will not need to be this big,... this is just to give you an idea of what i was talking about

Yeah, I figured there would be a standard tap fitting for it, but I haven't been able to find one yet. I was just wondering if there was a stock Mazda replacement or not. I checked the parts catalog at iluvmyrx7 and I didn't see it. But I'll give Ray a call and see what he says. Thanks

Replace the whole water pump. Malloy is a good source for a new one. Don't take chances with your cooling system. Nipples are not available seperately and trying to rig some kind of replacement is not worth the risk. Plus if the pump nipples look that bad you should probably replace the whole water pump anyway.

It's not the water pump itself. Its the water pump housing, which is a significantly larger part. So should I replace the water pump and the water pump housing?

IIRC, you can only get the pump and the housing as a unit.

I may have been in error on my last post, but, in any case, don't try to cobble something like that. If you lose water and overheat your engine (possibly ruining the coolant seals and requiring a rebuild), you will wish you did it right. Get the parts you need from Malloy, and don't take chances.

Exactly....our cars arent too expensive for that 1 mistake. Trust me...it only takes that 1 time to overheat and your coolant seals are shot.
