i just bought a Efini Y-pipe not too long ago and I'm goin to install it tomorrow.....can u feel the difference between the stock y-pipe and Efini? please tell me any comments, info etc. etc. Thanks guys

 

Some people have seen an extra pound of boost, but it's mainly a reliability mod, not a performance mod.

 

OMG, your in for a wild adventure, that thing is a bitch to install!!! In anycase, it is not a performance mod like Mahjik said.

 

I noticed a slight change in top end power. The car felt a little more lively at higher rpms.

This is what I did to install it. REmove airbox, airpump and rear turbo inlet pipe. Install Efini pipe. Reinstall above parts.

I noticed a difference in performance. It looks like the o-ring was leaking from the second turbo in the y-pipe.

This did not seem that hard to install to me. It took about an hour. I just removed the hoes to the airbox, the air pump (drop the alternator loose to get hte belt off), and the IC pipe from the turbo. Then it's just the 10mm bolts on the primary turbo outlet and the secondary outlet is just slides in to a socket. There are a couple vacuum hoses on the back of the stock y-pipe.

I got my from the Rx-7 store and I was surprised to see it did not come with a new gasket for the flange between the primary turbo outlet and the y-pipe. Also did not come with the nuts to connect the y-pipe to teh crossover tube or the bolts for the y-pipe to the primary turbo. I expected these things to be included. Jason did ship it priority mail though and did price match Madza Comp. I just reused the old gasket and bolts. My gasket and oring had some sealer on it (lookedl ike RTV) but my RTV is only good for 200C. I think some high temp grease on the oring might be a good idea . I think the y-pipe was made to slide in the socket on the rear turbo.

After this mod, by max boost on the P-FC went from 0.80 to 0.88 which is a nice increase. The priamry builds boost faster not too. I'd recommned this mod.

 

I only noticed performace because it replaced the old leaky pipe.

 

I noticed an increase in 1-2 psi and faster spool up times, but then again, I had mine jet-hot coated, which gave it the equivalent of a polishing job.

I DO recommend the mod though. It eliminates the rubber coupling AND it is reengineering to flow better

The M2 requires that you attach the supplied pipe over to the stock Y-pipe. If you have the efini pipe, you will either have to cut it or build a VERY creative bend from its end over to the IC.

 

WOW your in for a bitch of an install. Well if you do it the stupid way like me. Just make it easy on yourself and take out the airpump right away. I used a rubber mallet to seperate the old Y pipe from the tube that goes to the turbos, not easy. But I am noticing about a 1-2 psi gain, and it fixed my boost leak But its a good mod the old Y pipe always would pop off on me or always be leaking boost.

 

I for one, did not notice any gain in performance. If there was any, it wasn't significant. I didn't think it was hard to install, although I don't have an airpump... which eliminates a step in the process. The hardest part for me was getting past the o-ring and being able to slide that side of the y-pipe on. I suggest you lube the o-ring when you make your attempt. Overall, I didn't think it was difficult... I took my time and it took me about an hour.
