Y-Pipe Question..
Hi all, been reading this site for a long time and finally got myself an FD about 2 months ago.
Was completely stock 67k's when i got her from Japan (now in NZ)
As i said, been reading this site for a while and never had the need to ask a question as i could always search, but i came across something i couldnt find... someone will probably make me look like an idiot with 5 different links but anyway...
My question, are there any differences in the Y-Pipes of a series 6 and 7?
My FD is a series 7 and has a flange type connector for the IC pipe, but the IC kit i recently bought, which was advertised as fitting 92-97, has a silicone joiner type thing.
Talked to a wrecker and he can supply a y-pipe with a coupler type connection, but what else will i be looking at? any advantage with my current one?
Hopefully i have explained myself well..
On a side note, has anyone heard from Flyrx7 lately...sent him a few emails about the speaker pods but he hasnt updated his website for a while...
Thanks in advance

If you compare the two, you'll notice the "flanged" all-metal design that your car came with removed the bung (for the hose leading to the blow-off valve) from the internal air stream....allowing better flow. MAZDA claimed some hp increase, but it was probably the result of a number of design changes they made that year and not just the Y pipe. Still, better flow, together with removing the leak prone coupler, your "flanged" design is better and should connect to any otherwise suitable IC the same.

So, would removing the Y-Pipe and cutting the flange off, then getting some grooves machined be a better option than replacing it with an older style y-pipe?
