if you factor in the seals, the new parts that they install..can't recall off the bat what they put in..also the time to rebuild it(mechanic's hourly wage) then ya..it is not uncommon for the price to be a little high...rotary engine's can't just be slapped together like piston engines..tolerances,clearances need to be checked..other people will probably post up with places and prices(not tryin to sway any business from RAY..)

Prices went way up about 3 years ago I believe. from about $1500 to $2k plus. The good news is that I think more and more remans are coming with new housings--hence the need for higher prices.

Yeah, I paid about $400 more now than when I first checked a year ago.....<shrugs>....what can you do? And no....that price does NOT include shipping believe me! The shipping charges on my engine and core return are $450.

what does a reman generally come with then? usually a reman is close to a new engine as possible, a rebuild is using original parts except all new seals. if a reman comes with new housings and shipping prices then that still is a great price.

reman, rebuilt, they only do what they need to and even then not so good. Best to buy a mazda motor and send it to a builder to get "fixed" Or take your motor apart and replace what needs replacing.

So, they raised the price $200. So what? Mazda's raising prices on all FD parts. Not to mention the general inflation over the last few years that effects everyone.

Do you know oyur local mazda partsguy well? I got mine through my mazda dealership on cash tickets. You don't get charged for shipping or core return. My last reman cost me a little under $2100 with gasket set.

a reman is a remanufactured engine. They take them apart and replace what needs to be replaced not every thing. the problem is you never know how much is new and how much is used. when you get your engine rebuilt you know exactly what you change out.

So long as a reman can last over 80,000miles it's worth the money. Putting the whole ''what if the engine blows'' aside...how long do remans usually last, if taken care of well, with stock twin turbos, on stock boost with reliability modifications like the air splitter, and downpipe? Oh yeah. And Typical everyday driving. No racing or anything...just a couple revs back and forth when driving around. I'm curious...

I paid 2400 this past june and I got it from Ray. I only live 50 miles from there so it was a no brainer. I called another mazda dealer in the area before i bought it and they were about 400 bucks higher. I'd go with a rebuild if I wanted to do some internal upgrades, but I don't race so a reman was fine for me.

I think the problem is the quality of the cores ... and they don't learn this till the engine is opened up. By then they've already paid out the core refund. I think they automatically replace the rotor housings with new units, but if the intermediate and end irons have been ported, then those can't be reused either and basically they have to replace everything. Damaged rotors from detonation and "other" issues will leave very few reuseable parts.
