Would you guys use the release bearing supplied by ACT??

Hey guys,

Just recieved my clutch from Turboimports.com. Very nice!!! good price too!!

Came with the pilot bearing AND seal too!

Quick questions: Do you guys generally use the release bearing supplied by ACT? It seems to look exactly like my stock release bearing... same engravings etc.

Also, someone told me that i need a release bearing seal??? Ive never heard of such a thing

FYI This street disc is one thick unit!

Thanks.

Hey Ben,

which clutch did you order? The HD-00 (street/strip) uses the factory disc with an uprated pressure plate.

Street Kit : ZX3-HDMM

One of the main reasons i bought this clutch is becuase of your comments about this clutch Rich! Aparently you got 80 000miles @ 350rwhp or something on this clutch!?

I should only be 270-300rwhp so i think i will really enjoy having this clutch. I also got an ACT prolite flywheel too!

Did you get the older kit with the stock disc or did you get one of the new ones with updated disc?

Hmmm... cool, I didn't know ACT updated the disc. I wonder if it increased the torque capacity rating?

Ben, even the older style stock disc with the ACT pressure plate is plenty of holding power for your mods. I was running well over 300whp on the old style disc with no problems.

Oh damn! I havent seen the updated disc yet! You'll love the clutch Ben, I've been thinking about switching from my spec back to a sprung 6 puck ACT next time my motor is out...I miss the firm pedal feel.

Thanks Rich.

I am very impressed with ACT to say the least. This is truely a 'kit', i was amazed to see the pilot bearing seal!

Now can anybody give me any advise on how to break in my clutch properly? Maybe the ACT instructions will tell me.. But basically from what i have read just drive it easy for 500miles?

Define 'easy'

Thanks Guys

I have heard a couple tricks from various sources. The most popular involves stuffing the inside of the e-shaft with wet toilet paper and lightly pounding a 1/4" (or was it 3/8"?) drive extension into the middle. This applies pressure to the wet toilet paper and pops the pilot bearing out.

I have never tried it myself, but plenty of people suggest it.

Thumbs up

I just got my spec stage 3.. I also am going w/ a new master and slave cylinder, upgraded clutch fork, wedge collar, rear main seal, release bearing, pilot bearing and seal, clutch housing oil seal and spindle. Also a ss braided clutch line. I think I got it all covered! G

You would want to use the snuggest fitting thing to drive in there.

It's basically creating a piston, where the bearing is a sleeve that gets driven loose.

Sounds like a mickey mouse operation, hard to get a really tight fit with the rollers being slightly higher then the inner edge of the pilot bearing sleave...

I just pulled my pilot bearing out using a little help from Rob Golden (http://www.rebuildingrotaryengines.c..._Pilot_Bearing) and the PROPER mazda tool from Mazdatrix. The pilot bearing came out beautifully with 3 slides of the puller.

Took me 10 seconds to take the bearing out with the proper tools.

I have that tool also, and it works wonderfully. I mentioned the TP trick in case you didn't have access to it.
