Would safe mods...

...depreciated the value of your FD more than keep everything original?

The car in question is a 1994 Touring and has only 45K miles and considered to be a 9.8 on a scale of 1-10.

Thanks.

Which mods? In general they will not. The car is not a collectors item and so complete originality is not required.

In fact, if I were shopping for an FD, I would be looking for some of the reliability mods to have already been completed. It would be a sign that the owner was responsible and knowedgable about the car. Certainly a downpipe, boost gauge and AST and possibly a hose job (depending on milege) would be welcome.

Now if the mods were done poorly (e.g. AST elimination but did not swap the pressure relief cap over to the filler neck), then this would set off the warning bells in my head. The same for a cheap downpipe. It all depends.

The basic reliability mods, nothing radical.

And how do you know what the market for FDs will be 10, 20, 30 years from now?

Generally speaking, collector cars that are 100% original have the highest values.

Problem is an original FD lasting another 10 years even if driven ocasionally. The pre-cat is just way to much heat for the turbo's and motor. Maybe if he runs some evan's it will help a bit.

I'm doing the reliability mods, but keeping all the stock parts, and not performing any mods that can't be undone (cutting holes or anything like that). Someday if you want the car to look 100% original, put the factory precat back on, it's only a few hours work.

I do believe that these cars will be considered a "classic" someday, even if it's only by a small group of people. But it seems like pretty much everyone respects 3rd-Gens, even if it's just for the looks.

What kind of BS post is this? I bought my FD last year. It's a '94 and had 23K original miles. Let's assume this car is driven the same mileage in another 10 years when it will then have 46K original miles. As for not lasting, "even if driven occasionally" - what a load of crap! Echoing "scotty305", I replaced the pre-cat with a downpipe, but I kept the stock pre-cat and can always put it back in for originality's sake.
