Would an Rx8 6 speed transmission bolt into my 3rd gen?

I was thinking today about this. Would the 6-speed out of an Rx8 bolt into my 3rd gen? How different could the bell housing be? It should be about the same, right?

I thought I read a thread on this somewhere before and I remember the consensus being not with a lot of work. I'd try searching to see what you can find.

Heard the same, it won't bolt up. Also, with the 9000RPM redline of the rx-8, I would think you'd need to change the rear end gear ratio

I heard that the RX-8 tarnasmissions are having a hard time holding a large amount of power, so I don't know if this would be a good idea... Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it the same trans as in the miata?

yeah its a miata six speed

I remember reading something about a former FD owner snapping a stock RX8 tranny just taking the car to the strip with stock power levels...

I'll make it short and sweet:

The rx-8 tranny is way too weak, the gear ratios are completely wrong, and the power plant frame won't bolt up. I don't know, but you'd probably need a custom driveshaft too.

Oh yeah, and the guy that broke the RX-8 tranny on a stock RX-8 actually broke two of them so far I think.

it won't mate up properly (easilly) and won't hold the power or have proper gearing. there is a 6-speed available for the FD out of Japan. i don't remember the company but use the search function. i do remember it being about $7k

Sounds like the transmission won't fit, but, how come no one has done anything with the renisis yet...like perhaps a single turbo renisis FD. I'd love to see that. I have seen few modified RX-8's though, so I guess it's coming along

I'm just trying to be helpful here and not a smartass:
Try searching, this RX-8 6-speed stuff and the turbo Renesis stuff have been beaten to death in several threads already.

I tried searching for the tranny. Only found a couple threads, but with no answers.

I remember that post. It was that guy that was banned from here, "Dont_Be_A_Rikki".

cool, thanks. I thought it would be cool to have a 6 speed in the 7, but I guess the rx8 tranny is completly not the right thing for my soon to be 500whp rx7. haha, O well, it was just a thought.

If you want to install a 6-speed because you "thought it would be cool to have" you need to stick to automatics.
