My car is stock except a down pipe.I plan on putting on a resonated mid pipe,cause my Cat is clogged and i also am gonna install greddy cat back at the same time.Would this cause any problems,i've talked to some people that have a 3rd Gen Rx7 and ran this set up for a while with no problem. They said the map senor controlls the boost,and i'm not to sure where my air/fuel mix would be at.I plan on purchasing a ECU,but i need my car and i don't want to drive around with a clogged cat,and i don't want a high flow cat. If i don't get on it hard will i be ok,or will i be running to lean?Thank u

 

I'm gonna say you absolutely need a new ecu with that open of an exhaust. Maybe, just maybe you can get by with boost control but running like that is a big cause of dead engines...

 

yup... with the exhaust open like that, your waste gate isn't big enough to vent all the extra pressure, so even with a boost controller, you're likely to creep & overboost.

To run with an open exhaust, you should have an upgraded ECU, ported wastegate a boost controller and a boost gauge.

If you don't want to get all of this, you may want to go witha high flow cat. Or jsut get a used cat from someone while you save up to mod the exhaust properly.

Keep in mind that improperly modding the exhaust is a popular way of killing the engine.
