Bilstein shocks are one of the best quality shocks, they have lifetime warranty, kyb shocks are good, but I will go with the tockicos iluminas or my best choice the koni's sports they are adjustables and rebuildable and can be revalve, both are lifetime warranty, konis can be use for street, autocross and road racing aplications as mazda motorsports says, and even you can get a good price from them.

I'm sorry but there is no way that you could have messed up a set of Bilsteins in 3 months. I have had the stock Bilsteins for 8 years and 68K miles. And they still perform just fine.

You probably don't like the ride that they give your car. I have ridden in my buddies touring model and I can tell a big difference between our two cars. His rides alot softer and feels more cushionier (I think I just made up a new word ) Mine is more harsh and bouncy.

Are your Bilsteins adjustable? If they are, you should be able to soften the ride up a bit.

IMO KYB's kinda suck. I had a set on one of my 1st gens and they work fine but did not help the performance much. I would suggest the Tockico Illumina's, they are adjustable, decent, and very affordable ($103 ea. from Mazdamotorsports).

just my .02

I have Konis and like them very much. Their softest setting is a tad stiffer than the base struts, but nothing as bad as an R1. The adjustments are very progressive and repeatable as I have found autoxing with them; I can consistently notice a 1/4 turn in adjustment.
