Talking Woot!!! Pineapple is done with my Engine & Tranny!

Yaaaheheh!

Just got off the phone with Pineapple Racing..my engine & tranny is completed!!!

It's about 3 weeks already..I'm starting to go crazy without the car, here...but it's definetly finished before their projected finish date. Good stuff!!!

So...gonna get it shipped over to turbojeff's place or figure some other way to get it over there, and now we're just waitng for the parts! Can't wait to see it!!!

I'm mainly building my car as a daily driver..so I didn't want to ruin the driveability of the car...so I only purchased a small street port.

5Y/60k Engine Rebuild
Stage 2 Oil
Small Street Port
Tranny Rebuild

Not too much done...but I'm not going nuts like 600hp or anything. Just wanted a little extra oomph.

I've already done the research, but does it sound pretty good for a nice foundation?

that sounds great... i would really like to hear about your total experience with Pineapple. i was considering making an engine purchase from them in the near future and was wondering if you had any thoughts that would sway my decision. i know Nocab72 has a large streetport from Pineapple, and he seems to be trouble free with his GT3540, so i was wondering if you had anything to add? thanks, and get some pics asap!

Welps..so far the experience has been pleasureable with a few miscommunications problems...we dropped the engine & tranny off on a Saturday with an appointment, only to find they weren't there. Apparently, they were out testing some stuff when we showed up (we did show up a few minutes late..but we had to deal with the traffic from Eugene to Portland).

They estimated a 5 week period..and suggested to call back then. This really freaked me out, as I couldn't believe it would take so long. But the truth is that they're working their tails off.

These guys seem to really know their shiznit...Rob is an exciting fellow to talk to, and really friendly..he'll talk your ear off if you let him.

They were extremely friendly today, when I called about the engine...and it was a great surprise to know that my engine AND tranny were completed in just under three weeks (I recounted the days).

As far as their workmanship, I haven't seen the engine yet..and and Jeff will be the one picking it up.

I'll take some pics and post them up..I've got some great before photos.

I just need some fabulous AFTER photos.

well in portland Pineapple Racing has quite a good rep. I bought my 87 n/a from them for 1500, and It has run quite well. It had a new engine put in (I got it with 3000 on it). mostly it needed interior pieces and some TLC but has been mostly trouble free. They also put my racing beat exhaust in about 15 minutes. (they forgot they were going to install it.) These guys are always busy!!! I've yet to hear a complaint about them. My only complaint is that Rob needs more help. They need someone to help with the piddly ****. like troubleshooting. cause when Rob has time he can pinpoint the problem in seconds!!

I was looking at the website and pineapples prices look very good! Please let us know how it is when you get it all back together. I don't need a motor now, but at 65K and need to be prepared for that time...although the car has been babied so should last a while more. If you don't mind, i'm interested in how you shipped the tranny motor and approx. costs. Do you just send them the stripped motor or pull it and send with all accesories?

From my understanding Pineapple Racing hired a fella, his name is Joe.

Welps..the whole thing came up to about $3,800 buckaroos..that's with flywheel resurfacing.

His prices are pretty much exact..but from what I was told..they're really losing a bit of money on the prices, so they might go up soon.

I do agree that they need some more help..they've got work coming outta their ears...they actually have to turn jobs down, because they don't want to get overworked.

As far as shipping, we transported the engine and tranny, fully stripped of all secondary systems and accesories in the back of a truck. It was pretty much just the engine and tranny. The tranny was actually connected with one bolt, just for ease of tearing it apart.

As far as costs..I was going to ship it to Eugene from their shop in Portland, and that would have run me about a 150 bucks. It's only a two hour drive..so I guess you can do some estimating...shipping can be expensive, I imagine.

Joel is the guy that was hired. A long time friend of Robs and mine. CJ

On a side note, he's building a turbocharged 13B peripheral port for a sand rail!!! Can you imagine 500 easy rwhp in a 1200lb ish sand rail?? That would be insane.....

What the heck is a sand rail? Is that like a dune buggy?

Oh..and I was gonna say it's "Joel..not joe".

He's the first guy I talked to..I was like.."I don't remember you?" in my head..heheheh....

Joel sounded like a decent guy...

The *exact* setup I got from Rob almost exactly one year ago (minus the tranny). I'm extremely happy. And my tuner keeps talking about how well-built the engine is.

Rob is an incredibly nice fella, and has already helped me once since I got the engine reinstalled (when my mechanic had some questions about the NPG+ that Rob recommends - and usually ships - with his engines).

AX, enjoy it! What turbo are you strapping on there?

Thanks guys,

enuttage,At first, it'll be the stockers for a little..and I'm trying to decided on what's next after that.

I do plan on setting aside money for the turbo upgrade..but I'm indecisive as to what would be the best route to head down...BNR upgrades..or a single turbo.

So exactly how much are you pushing with the car? 1/4 and HP/TQ with your current setup?

It's nice to hear of other people that have dealt with Rob and had good results..it kinda makes me feel at ease.

The car is what I'd call "safely fast". I wanted a street/autoX setup, and Rob (Pineapple), Chris (RP) and Mohammed (MZM) gave me exactly what I wanted.

Don't have 1/4 mile times, as I haven't yet been to the strip. I'll get down there eventually.

I'm pulling 378.8rwhp/284.xrwtq right now, and I'm pulling in a straight line on both of them from 3K all the way up to redline. Here's the dyno sheet. Mohammed tells me that Rob's work has made a power difference. I'm running the Apexi RX6 and am very happy with it for street/autoX usage. Spools the same as the twins but keeps pulling. I'd explore the GT35/40 if I were buying now though. It seems to be the new power miracle drug. Low spool, high power.

Good luck with it. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Ah..thanks for the information...sounds absolutely fabulous.

I'm aiming for a nice reliable daily driver, at first..then..I'm going to buy a decent beater..and make it a little faster for those strip and track days.

What modifications do you have besides the turbo?
