Wiring Stock electric fans on custom setup
Wiring Stock electric fans on custom setup
Hey Guys,
I thought i would ask the 3rd Gen guys first as the part im having trouble with is out of an FD3S.
I have a FC3S with a vmount setup which is using a FD alloy radiator, and ive heard good things about the stock fans and got hold of some for next to nothing, now im having trouble wiring these guys up... i cant even get them going let alone pick the speed i want. I plan to use my power FC to control them through a relay but if someone could tell me how to wire them up to full speed that would be greatly appreciated.
Now these are out of a Jap spec car, and all i can tell you is the colours of the wires coming from the fan motors which are.... Black, Blue, Yellow and Green.
Thanks

ASSuming the wiring on your fans are the same as the USDM fans, Black and (Blue w/ Orange stripe) are ground. (Yellow w/ White stripe) and (Red w/ Yellow) should be power.
These are the wire colors in the body harness, if you only have a fan there's no guarantee that Mazda used the same color on both side of the connector. It would be a very good idea to double-check on a working FD.
Using a relay is a good idea. Remember the fans draw a lot of current when running (exact numbers are in the Mazda factory workshop manual), but you should look for a relay that is rated for twice that amount. There is a very quick spike in current when starting the fan from a complete stop, it will draw about twice the normal operating current each time the fan is turned on.
