Wiring Diagnostics

I just put my reman engine in my car and I'm getting two trouble codes, fuel thermosensor (23) and purge control valve (40).

For the purge control valve...I guess for now I'm just going to plumb it up so it dumps to the outside air...

But for the fuel thermosensor...since it is the same sensor, which wasn't giving me a problem before I took the engine out...I'm going to try and see what kind of reading it is giving me. From the Wiring Diagram....the fuel thermosensor (B1-B) goes from 1U to 3L it looks like...so I guess I could put a multimeter across those two wires.....? I have no idea how to read these diagrams....though...and I don't know what I'm supposed to be looking for and if I should really be looking at 1U to 3L... Does anyone have any insight into how to use the diagrams to perform a diagnostic to know what is coming out of a specific sensor?

The fuel sensor is a much like the coolant temp sensor. The system is not complex enough to see anything but direct open circuits and shorts so, the sensor is likely "ajar". You can probe the two terminals at the ecu with the connector unplugged at the ecu use a ohm meeter and check the resistance. If it's open/disconnected/ajar it will read as if the meeter is not making contact or the leads are unplugged. I would use the beep feature most meters have it. If there's a closed circuit ('good one) the meter will beep. Its likely just ajar. P/M me if you need more help. Its not a real problem and for the purge just plug the solenoid in and the light will not come on. The compute is just looking for a reading when its turning it on and when its off.
