When removing the rear wing the other day to fix a leak I seen the left hand plastic clip that goes into the boot metal was rooted and half broken off.
The left side that goes onto the metal bracket was fine ( still baffled as to why they had to have 2 different style clips )
Anyway has anyone found a replacement solution or at very least can tell me how it is fixed in the wing base before I try and remove it
the different clips are for installation in the factory with the hatch up in the air a technician can snap the wing on with perfect alignment then install the outer bolts. this rust issue happened to me i had a body shop fix the rust/ rot on the deck lid then repaint and install all new hardware and clips from the dealer.
Thanks for the reply,
The idea behind the clips was great and typical Japanese. I don't get why they needed two different styles on the one wing.
The sad part is the clip I need has been out if production for a couple of years at least.
I was hoping someone will chime in and say to go get a clip from say a Honda NSX.
It's Murphy's law that of the two clips the one that's broken is out of production
Does anyone have a pic of the clip at all I want to see how it is fixed into the wing as I may have a solution but dont want to try it out until i know how it fixes in. I suspect it is just a press in fit but would like to know before hand
Well unfortunately no one had an answer so decided to go full exploration on the wing end.
It turns out there is a steel threaded insert which had rusted around the busted clip.
Clip full broke off leaving the threaded insert.
A soldering iron and a 45 degree pick made short work of that and a tap cleaned the thread.
Since clip no longer in production or available I needed a solution.
So I repurposed a trim clip to suit.
I would not have been able to sleep otherwise.
Hope this helps anyone else .
