Has anyone had their windshield on their FD replaced? How much did you pay for furnish/install? I was quoted $290 for the windshield, new molding, and installation. Does this sound a little high? I have had a few windshields replaced on a few cars before and never cost more then $220 and that $220 was for a MUCH larger windshield.

 

I have. But winshield replacement in FL is free, so I don't know what the price was. $290 doesn't sound unreasonable to me though.

 

I had mine done last week and it cost me $300 with tax. Didn't need the molding.

 

I ordered an OEM winshield (which they had to order from Canada) for my 95. It was $550 IIRC. I had glass coverage so it was free.

 

Okay, I just wanted to double check. I figured the cost might have been a little higher considering it's an rx7. I don't need the molding either but in order to give a 1 year warranty on the oem windshield they said they have to replace the molding when they replace the windshield. I have insurance on the car but I don't like to use it on little things like this. Thanks guys

 

If you had AAA they do windshield replacements for $100 flat rate...

 

I used to have them until I got a d.u.i. 5 years ago like a moron. I only blew a 0.08 too! but Virginia is a zero tolerance state.

The OEM windshields are lighter than aftermarket ones, so get the OEM if you can.

 

Not saying that you're wrong,.....but where'd the hell you get that info from?

 

From an aftermarket windshield dealer. Just check out the price differences. Mazda went all out in weight reductions for this car...makes sense.

 

^ that isn't true. not trying to argue but I've been in the commercial glazing industry for many years. glass is glass. Not positive on windshields but I am pretty sure that they are 3/8'' thick tempered laminated. No matter who makes it, it weighs the same. The reason for cost difference is because oem might have better light transmittance different solar heat gain light reflectance better U-factor rating and CRF rating. Also there is a bigger surcharge for oem because of the distance it is shipped as opposed to a knock-off brand manufactured within a few miles. Weight is not different nor is it a factor in cost.

 

Yeah, that about sums it up. I tint windows for a living, so I've been around glass once or twice before.
