window problems

I got my car back from a body shop (used to be friends of mine, long story but basically they're not friends anymore because they royally screwed me over on my car, ruined the core support, lost pieces, stolen stereo, on top of everything else the paint job looks like **** and the only reason they finished it in 6 months is because I was all over them everyday after I returned from deployment, they're just real dirtbags).

Anyway, they had the doors off so they could paint the jambs and everything. They had the door wiring harness connectors covered when they painted, but I'm not sure if they were covered the whole time. My list of problems is below...

-Driver window is intermittent. Sometimes it will work, and just a little later it won't work at all. And it can be 5 minutes after you roll it up/down or 5 days, there is no rhyme or reason to it.

-Passenger window won't work at all. It worked the first day I hooked up the controllers, but hasn't since.

-power mirrors won't work at all. I did replace the stock mirrors with Ganadors, but I hooked all the wiring up before/while installing them.

-power locks won't work. Before, when locking/unlocking the driver's door, it would do the same for the passenger side. I never really checked to see if that's how all FDs were set up. And my linkage to the inner handle is broken anyway (something else they broke), so it's hard telling.

So what I'm thinking is maybe paint and/or clearcoat got into the connectors, or maybe the passenger side motor is burned out (haven't tested the motors yet) and the driver's side has messed up wiring somehow. I have checked the fuses and they're all good. I've swapped out window controllers with my roommate's FD and they don't work either, so I'm fairly certain it's not that. I'll probably check the motors, then if that doesn't produce positive results I'll pull the fenders so I can get to the connectors and make sure they aren't messed up. Oh, the rubber boot on the passenger side connector isn't pressed on all the way, I'm wondering if that could be part of the problem.

Any ideas? Does the FD have a body control module? I've been looking in the FSM but no luck yet.

Sorry to hear about your dilemma. I would be a "little" PO`ed about all of that. My hunch is the same as yours. Paint or clear coat has gotten into your connectors. I am not sure what is out there that would eat the paint inside of those connector pins for you if you soaked the whole connector in it for awhile. Before I go telling you to soak your connector in a jar of paint thinner, might want to look into it first. Plastic connectors have a tendency to melt when the wrong chemicals are put on them. I am wondering if there are any paint & body guys here who could chime in & give you some support on your problem. Surely they have had this problem happen before & came up with a way to solve it. I wouldn`t recommend using any kinds of acids on the connectors either. Wouldn`t want it to eat the pins inside of the connectors or get them to start corroding.

Thanks for your input! I actually fixed it last night. The drivers door connector wasn't fully connected because a couple additional wires for an alarm were getting jammed up in the connecting pins because when the re-installed the doors they didn't pull the wires tight from the inside. Thanks again!

Well good! Good to hear that you got it fixed without too much difficulty. Glad it turned out OK without having to spend days on it wondering what was wrong & trying everything. You don`t ever know what the fix is going to be when other people have been in a car & created a problem. In your case, you were fortunate it wasn`t worse. Takes awhile sometimes with a meter to track down what the problem is & can be very time consuming & frustrating. Hope you get the car back on the road soon! Take care!
