i not to juse about in the us but in the uk the cars just dont lose value it all depends on how long you are willing to wait to sell the car there is always someone some where that will buy your car at the price you want for it. yes fd's are expensive to run but what sports cars arn't ive had 4 jap imports and there all expensive be it fuel clutch or whatever but you would be gard pushed to buy a 1992 gen 3 with 40k mile for less than £8k and when you can buy them in jap for £5k there is some nice money to be made!!!

It'll be really easy to pick up a cheap 3rd gen when the 2006 4th gen comes out.

i've seen pics of the cars from the FF2
I didnt see any rx7 looks like they're goin for a new batch of cars. which means, peoples attention will actualy steer away from the FD, so its price will actually drop.

also theres the rx8, I believe that WILL hurt the price of the FD, even though its such a different car.

you gotta remember lots and lots of great toys keep pouring out of factories...

the market is pretty saturated, there are not enough young people coming through with the money to buy all the toys that will appear when all the boomers die off

while the rx7 only made it to the states in limited numbers there are thousands going dirt cheap in japan right now... they just aren't rare enough to ever be worth much more than they are now, if that changes they will be shipped over by the boat load

the rx8 has just been released, if it doesn't sell well it will cause fd prices to drop as the world gives up on rotaries...

if it does sell well they'll bolt on a supercharger rename it the rx7 and fd prices will fall...

eric e

maybe i'm just bitter because of how much i lost on my porche after pouring money into it and then having to sell it cheap because the old guys who want a porche already have one, (or 2) and young guys want something faster and cheaper

I don't need to worry about that. I own one of only TWO FD RX7 in country. These things are sooooo rare in Europe, you hardly get to see a piece on the road. I got mine for about $7k will probably invest around $5k into it (without counting the new motor when the old one pops). Hell, even delSol CRX VTEC's are more expensive here (although, I did get my Rex for a good price).

Don't worry, be happy

i live in a medium sized city in japan, the other day i went down to a tyre shop and noticed my FD was 1 of 4 parked in a 100 meter circle

mine at the tyre shop, a shop worker's at the same place, over the road a mobile phone shop worker's and just down the road a home electronics shop worker's

none of them were stock, they are just too common here to be left stock

Who'd want an Rx-7 when a new Lotus Elise is available for the equivalent of US$30,000? I was amazed at how many Elises I saw in Switzerland last year.

You know I kind of like the amount of problems the car has.

Makes the car require a die-hard owner - as it should considering it's level of performance.

Its been about a year since I posted this. If anything, prices for cars of same condition have increased.

3 or 4 years ago, I could get a 93 with 75k for like 13,000 easily. Id have trouble doing that today

holy necromancy batman!

mine has increased in price since I bought it, more due to moving to PR where they are highly sought after.

This is only talking selling price, I've put more in mods and maintenance so it's still a money eater

As this recently bumped thread will show, prices have remained pretty stable over the last 10 years:

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ghlight=prices

There was bump around the 2006-2008 time frame due to easy credit and the roaring economy.

There are some really peachy cars out there now for very little (e.g., minty cars with 30-40k miles for $14k or so). Of course, if you look at just asking prices, you will see many high mileage FDs for sale in the high teens. These are usually being sold by people who have not yet figured out that modifications do not increase market value - and that chassis miles do matter..

^ exactly! I have over $25k in my car, including purchasing it used and getting it rebuilt. It has about 133k mileage, 17k on rebuild, but I doubt I could get more than 11-12k for it if I tried to sell it, unless someone rich who wants one of these BADLY offers $20k .. lol.

However, 10 years from now, provided still in good condition and under 200k mileage, I think it would still be worth at least $10k...

but I dont really care, cuz Im keeping it.

Reading thru this made me chuckle. Saw one sell for $105k on Bring a Trailer. If only they had known.
Even 100k+ miles are 20k now

I could probably get more than twice the purchase, parts and labour (living arrangements at the time didn't allow me to do any serious work) I have spent on mine and it's nothing special. There would be some people with series 8s that could make a very big return if they bought at the right time.
