Will the value of these cars go up or down?
right now i want to buy a rx7...but i need a real cheap one...no more than 7k....i dont have to buy the car now...im gonna put an ls1 into one when i get it...if i was to wait about a year...do u think the prices would come down and i could find one with no motor and tranny for about 5k? thanks
you may be able to find one right now for 5k with no engine or tranny
sadly thats a reasonable price
Im not sure if prices will go up or down in a year
I didnt buy this car for an investment but it would be nice to know youre driving something valuable to others as well

In ohter words, if you get one that has an LS1 or if you put an LS1 in it, either way, the value will go down a lot!! It would then be a Franken7, and would require a VERY special buyer. Most people that by a 7, buy it because it is a rotary.

Okay, just checking. I knew I recognized that car. Rdahm owns the RX-7, and his brother owns the supra. Pretty sweet cars. Met them both this past summer at a BBQ at Banzai Racing.
Just as an FYI, you should really get permission from people before you use their pictures for yourself. You should also not list cars in your sig that you do not actually own... of course, that's just my own personal opinion.
Back on topic, I think that eventually (we're talking years down the road) these cars will become "classics" so to speak, and the value will begin to go up. However, that's a LONG ways away, and until then, the value will continue to decline.
Oh, and I really don't think that swapping in a V8 will decrease the value. It'll just change the market for who will buy it. Hot Rods from the 50s and 60s still hold an incredible value, yet they are quite often customized in much the same way that JimLab is customizing his RX-7.

Well thats your opinion. But if you only have $7k to spend on this car, an LS1 conversion is NOT an option. That'd be waaay more than $7k

Well it seems that the RX7 has held its value, there still quite expensive to buy. A 93 holding a value close to $16,000 is quite impressive if you ask me, estimating that I would say the value would drop about $500 or more per year. What were they new about $30-40k
.
Do you guys think the value would go up, down, or no effect when the new Rx-7's come out?

The value of a V-8 FD will be less than a normal FD in the eyes of a collector in the future. Few people want them with V-8 as compared to those who prefer the rotary, and taking out the original equipment for something else will keep the value lower.
i think what diablone meant by saying "Or if you just get a car with your engine, you don't have to care what happens to the value of an RX-7." i think he was saying buy a car that originally came with an ls1. this way you dont have to worry about whether the value of the rx7 goes up or down, you can worry about the car you bought.
As for value, to be completely honest i think over the next 5 years the value may start to increase a bit. so many people are wrapping them around trees, they are becoming more and more rare. The people who own them have a lot invested into them, so they arent willing to sell them for cheap.

My FD is one out of two in the country. And if someone will want it really bad, he will have to pay a lot for it. Simple. And mine isn't for sale and will most likely try to keep it for as long as I can drive
