sorry about the miss understanding. miata highway gears suck. so i was going to put the rear assemly fom a rx7 to help out my highway gears.

#1 the RX-7 has a 4:10 rear end whereas the Miata has a 4:3 so its not really going to make a very big difference at all. If your miata doesn't have forced induction your going to have to do a lot of extra "rowing". The miata is geared the way it is for a reason, and having lower RPMs to cruise at isn't going to help your gas mileage much, the fact that it is a convertible and has a poor drag coefficient is a more important factor. A simpler way of decreasing your RPMs would be to install the 6 speed rear end, which has a lower final gear than the 5 speed, but you will have to downshift into 4th anytime you want to accelerate on the freeway.

i have a friend with a highly fabricated miata., he just got done putting a tII diff, tranny, and hubs into his miata. was not easy by no means, but should hold up quite well
