Wierd... car won't start

Something strange is going on.. I let my mom borrow my car while van was in the shop. I went to pick it up from her that evening and the car wouldn' t start. I had rained pretty hard that day so maybe something is shorted out, but all the lights and power comes on, but the car will not turn over, and i can't even hear a cylenoid click or anything. It is kinda like the clutch isn't pressed in enough for it to start. Anyone else have similar problem and found the solution? Just checking, maybe a fuse or contactor or something.. Thanks for the help.
Gil

I had a similar problem. Check the EGI fuse. If that's not it check the rest of the fuses and go from there.

Check the switch on the clutch pedal that disengages starter circuit if the clutch is not depressed. They are known to go bad. A long shot, but it happened to me, is that the stock alarm system ECU has a starter circuit lockout as the second stage of a triggered alarm. My alarm never triggered but this circuit became problematic and I have had to bypass it

This is gonna sound silly, but make sure the floormat isn't causing the clutch not to engage all the way, I've seen this happen before.

definetly if its not turning over, your starter is not functioning. Did you check the battery is it good are all the connections good?

yep, checked the connection and everything is connected properly. I have all interior lights functioning, which is why the fuse, or clutch switch is making the most sense at this point.

I had this almost exact thing happen the other day.. The starter cutout relay was opening as if the car alram had been acticated. I removed the relay and jumpered the two pins on it and mine is working perfectly. I suppose I should disconnect the battery overnight and see if I can make whatever is glitching in the alarm forget it's shortcoimings.. LOL

Michael,
Ok.. that might be what is happening... where is the starter cutout relay? would you be able to take a pic and show us what you did? I think this is the problem, because when i go to lock the door now, and push the lock down it doesn't activate the alarm anymore... Thanks alot for the help.

The relay is behind the drivers left kick panel within a foot of the fusebox. You will have to remove the kick panel. The relay is small and has a plug going into it with 4 wires. 2 little ones for relay Coil voltage and two big wires for signal to the starter. You can do two things. Cut one of the little wires. OR rempove the relay from teh circuit (unplug it) and get two crinp type solderless connectors (female) and jumper the two big wires on the plug. Jumpering the wires is preferable to cutting.

There is a plastic "button" on the clutch peddle that falls apart over time. If that piece of plastic breaks the clutch switch will go through the hole where teh "button" once was and make the car not start. I had this happen one time as well.

go to www.iluvmyrx7.com and download the wiring diagram

still haven't fixed it

Ok... I spent all day yesterday trying to fix my problem.. I tried all of the suggestions that were given.. I checked my EGI fuse, and my B1 fuse (my dad has a 94 and i switched them out) I jumped the clutch cutout button to eliminate that.... I swithched starters.. no luck ... and i checked every fuse possible.. I also swapped the starter cutout relay ... still nothing... I'm dumbfounded and can't get my car running!!!! I can push start it which tells me it is something along the lines of a line break that has to do with ignition.. All instruments work and turn on..... I just cannot get anything.... I MEAN ANYTHING when i turn the key to start.. IF Anyone else has any ideas I would greatly appreciate the help.

Jumper the alarm cutout relay. Replacing it with another good one will have the same symptoms.. the car wont start.

Bypayy the relay by jumpering the two big wires with a wire that has two female solderless connectors on it.

If the Alarm cut out relay "clicks" then the alarm is preventing the car from starting.

What symptoms would that be may I ask. Would this mean it prevents the starter from turning over, or does it prevent the car from firing.

Ok.. i'll try that.. but i'm a little confused. Why would jumping the relay work, and replacing it with one that does work, not work? Does it trip something in the alarm that is irreversible?

the thought is that the alarm is acting up. that is why putting in a new starter/alarm relay will not solve it. the relay is not the problem just the means the alarm use to stop the starter motor from getting power. bypassing it bypass the alarm's ability to kill the starter.

I agree. THe starter cut relay recieves signal sent by the CPU to stop the starter from getting battery voltage at it's small terminal. I'm currently having problems with this too, except mine just happens every once in a while. I have it down to either the wiring itself, the ignition switch, or the starter cut relay.
