Why Would I Want A Rx7?!?!?!
Hey whats up to all you guys!I am new to this forum but not new to cars. Right now I own a 91 eclipse turbo with plenty of mods. Here is the deal, I am finally graduating college and I want a new car. My choices were WRX, but my bro has one. So i scratched that. Supra too expensive, and my friend has one, maybe u saw it at englishtown hit the wall this past sunday.
So my choices that i was really interested in was the 93-96 rx 7. I am looking to buy for 18000 with 50,000 miles. But i know that rotary engines are notorious for being bad. I was wondering if you guys can fill me and when the engines start to go bad , and what has your experience been with them. And what too look for , and who the hell can work on the engine if something does go bad.
Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Can everyone just feel love? Its radiation from my computer monitor is so powerful, that I'm getting radiation burns and cancer.
Search for 'relaibility'. Also remember that a T/A (turbo aspirated) rotary with stock cooling will not likely live to see it's 100,000th mile. A N/A (normally aspirated, i.e. no turbo/ supercharger) will likely outlast you with just regular oil changes. You should seriously search for reliability, though. This topic has been beaten nearly as badly as my ****.

Ok, since I was once a newbie also I will share my experiences with my FD (3rd Generation RX7 93-95) One of the main problems (if not the main problem) with 3rd Generation RX7's is the cooling system. The temps under the hood get EXTREMELY hot! After hard driving on the stock cooling system (ast, radiator, intercooler etc..) it would hurt my eyes to look under there, hehe. The very first mod i did was my Fluidyne radiator. The stock one is very inadequate and will likely go out at around 75k miles. Next I got an Aluminum AST (Air Separator Tank) from Pettit. The stock ast has a tendency to crack/blowup leaving coolant to spill out all over the place. you can also purchase an M2 AST elimination kit. Its mostly preference when deciding to upgrade or eliminate. Next you need a boost gauge to make sure your turbos are working correctly and that you have no lose or missing hoses which could cause great power loss. The stock Intercooler is also VERY tiny and dosnt cool very well at all. This is a must when upgrading beyond exhaust, downpipe, intake and computer. Which brings me to another point. Most people go with the basic 3 mod rule. Which means if you upgrade to intake, downpipe and exhaust you will most likely need a new ECU. The most popular is the APEXi PFC. Some others are the M2,Pettit and G-Force.
These cars are high maintence and require a lot of TLC. Change your oil every 2000-2500 miles and check your temp gauge constantly. If it goes up at all then your pretty much saying hello to a engine rebuild. Just browse these boards for awhile before you make a decision and you will get a pretty good feel for the car. Take care!

I wish I had know about the RX7Forum earlier. I have had both the radiator(twice) & AST crap out on me! I am pretty much expecting the current radiator, since it's not a hi-performance rad., give up soon. So I'll be buying a fluidine rad. as recommended on the forum. This forum is trully a great resource. You just need to be patient and "search"
And if you are looking to buy used FD parts off the forum, be sure not to dig some old-*** post of an item that is long gone, like I did.(i'm a dumbasss...)

There is nothing wrong with leaving it stock, it will run just fine. Of course there are always things to make it better, just like any other car. Keep in mind when buying this car that it will need higher maintence and care taken. Engines can be expensive, and when and if you ever upgrade performance parts search the forum for answers. Linger around the forum for awhile and read up on info, you will either love the car or hate it.

I'm a CF and poop smith
I hear wrx's tend to understeer in corners. personnaly i would want a car that oversteers cuz...
1. its more fun
2. i dont like the idea of turning the steering wheel and nothing hapenning
also the weight issue, fd's have better acceleration. also i could be wrong but top speed is an issue for 4 wheel drive cars, i dont think the diff can handel it.
P.S. FD's look much better

I saw that Supra hit the wall this weekend. That sucked. How is the car, driver. I was racing that day, went low 14's in the civic, then I fell in love with a 94 RX-7 on Monday, and I have a deposit on it right now.
