Castrol and Mobil 1 are NOT true synthetics. Castrol changed their formula a few years ago and Mobil sued them and lost. (Mobil said castrol's new formula was not a true synthetic) Mobil later changed their formula to the same as Castrol. I believe the new formula uses some dino derivates or something.
It is much cheaper to make and thats why they made the change. Although it is better then regular dino oil it does not offer the protection of true synthetic oil. I knoe AMSOIL is true synthetic as well as a few others. I stay away from Mobil and Castrol if not just for the reason they are decieving customers. I'll try to find the article about this.

Dowel pins! It is using metal dowels to pin the motor, hence the name. That is a very frequently misspelled item. Having read this thread, you can spell it correctly from now on.

This doll pinning thing sounds interesting, too. Or it sounds sick, depending on how you look at it. Stay away from those bowel peen hammers.

Royal Purple is $5 for the blended stuff and $8 for the full synthetic Racing stuff.

I'm curious about this, too. I know a lot of oil will still be left in the oil coolers, lines, etc. so I think the 5.7 or so quarts mentioned in then manual is too much. How many quarts do you DIY'ers normally get? Do you drain and fill twice to get more of the old oil out? Has anyone just drained about a quart or two, then poured fresh oil in, then ran the car, and then completely drained and refilled? I imagine that would be messy.
Has anyone tried those magnets that go around your oil filter? Will they interfere with the operation of the anti-backflow valve?
What kind of ratings do synthetics normally have? 5w-50 sounds like quite a range, does that basically lubricate effectively in just about any temperature?
