Why our cars will never go out of style.
My 94 Montego Blue has been sitting for almost 3 yrs. I put it away due to some ignition issues, and for the first year started it once in a while. Was on plan for major rework, but due to job issues was placed on hold. Car currently dyno'd 333 to rear wheels with stock twins and all the bolt ons. It sat for two more years, just covered.
After yet another move, I finally decided to go get it and bring it to my current location.
I rented a Uhaul car mover loaded it in Lexington and made the trip to upstate NY.
Had just pulled out to a main road when the gawking started, first a chick in a mustang, then a guy in a Porsche. People would race up, and sit next to me staring at it, this was the whole trip!!
Well, will try to register it, and run it some more. I'm close to Watkins Glen, but I think hardcore getting on it will have to wait till I have some funds for my major rebuild and single turbo.
I love my car.

Here it is in May-June 05. Looks the same except I put brand new RT-615's that I ordered over 2 yrs ago.
I had to get a new battery. It started on the first try after sitting about 2 yrs!

I get the same thing man. Whenever I go out in my FD someone comes up to me asking about it, gawking at it, or I get the..."wanna join our mad tight skillzzz car club?!?" I went to this hangout spot a few weeks ago to check out some of the local cars thinking I might see some nice cars out here(i'm from NC) and this guy comes up to me and introduces himself as the VP of his club and is giving me the wanna join speech....well then he says to me...NO JOKE.."man your car would be the first TOYOTA in our club" man...I love the attention my car gets but sometimes it's like

Lol. That guy deserved a crotch kick for sure. Anytime I go anywhere in mine, people that know are like Omg an FD! and people that don't know don't believe it's 15 years old. So I guess that's rarity and timelessness in one shot.

It has been well debated in the past and will continue to be so, the timelessness of the design.
Every so often, 'perfect' cars come out (Jaguar E-Type, Lamborghini Miura S, Porsche 911, etc) that are so breathtakingly beautiful it hurts. The FD easily falls into that category.

The FC was cool, I loved mine and frankly, there has never been a better pop-up light system designed and put on a car.
The 'problem', if you will, with the FC is it was seen by some as a Porsche 924 knock-off. Magazines of the time, while praising the handling and engine and fit and finish often harped about this. There were even rumors of Mazda admitting to copying the basic design...at least in profile.
For that matter, the FB was another masterpiece, seen as yet another car that opened the eyes of the general populace to the ability of the Japanese to make a fine sports car, coming on the heels of the famous Datsun 240Z.

Even SO the fc was a great design and still is to this day. The 924 and the FC were in a battle in 85 86 to get buyers.
The 928 was a 60 70 k car if i remember right.
And the FC was a 19k-22k car depending on the model you got.. I call that affordable .
the 924 was close to the same price as the fc but drank less fuel. and it was taller and a bit heaver
Personaly i would have went with the Rx7 because it was ahead of its time really.
I think the FC is having a hard time going out of style also. Not only the third gen.
But The FC Even today is ALOT of BANG for the buck..
But i grew up with the FC's in the family and thats all i like. Not to knock the third gen or anything. They are nice Cars and newer..
But Just like the Older group that are into the FB's Im in the middle stickin the the FC's And i think its fun and a challenge to keep them Running for as long as i can.
Just my two cents. on the dalla lamma
